HD Radio's Best "WHUR World" - 96.3 WHUR HD2
The National Association of Broadcasters recognizes Howard University owned “WHUR World” as a superior HD-2 channel. NAB’s Senior VP of Radio John David says it “has successfully combined non-traditional music, news, community involvement and information into a fresh new variety format that creates a new identity for HD radio.” The music of the Washington, D.C.-based channel encompasses jazz, hip-hop and world music and community based talk shows about finances and domestic violence. WHUR brands itself as “culturally rich” and rooted in “the original WHUR concept of 360 degrees of total blackness.” WHUR World will receive an award at the upcoming NAB Radio Show in Austin.

WHUR World streams on internet and is one of a very few HD-2 stations that actually produces live content. Programming includes: The Connection with Lorna Newton is a 4 hour music intense show airing live Monday thru Friday 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Legato Lycx hosted by Joe Gorham featuring “Smooth Beats", Monday through Thursday 6:00 to 10 pm and The Takeover with Big Steve and Pizo playing Hip Hop with a hint of R&B, every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 to 10pm. The “Sighlent Storm”. A half hour program, hosted by Mandrell Birks and Denise McCain, airing on Saturdays at 7:00 AM (EST) which is unique in its consideration of the issue of violence against women and men. It emphasizes many interrelated aspects of the issue – physical abuse, sexual assault, young adult violence, hate crimes across the lines of gender, and the gender bias in our judicial system that further victimizes survivors of abuse.
