Youngblood and Saturday Morning's "Spotlight Gold" Exits Kiss 104.1

Youngblood, the popular radio host of "Spotlight Gold," the Saturday morning R&B oldies show on Kiss 104.1 has exited the R&B station. His show aired from 7am to 12 noon.

He had been on Atlanta radio for over three decades.

Listeners of Youngblood have expressed outrage at his dismissal at Kiss 104.1 on his Facebook Fan page. There has been a petition launched calling for his show to return to the airwaves.

Youngblood had been previously fired from Kiss 104.1 in 2011. But due to demands by listeners he was brought back.

    2. OMG!!! Outrageous!! I moved to Atlanta fro NYC in 1983 and Youngblood’s show kept me grounded and in touch with the music I grew up on. FIVE........only FIVE hours a week, but it was some of the best hours of the week. Housework and Youngblood is synonymous!! Won’t be participating in 104.1. YOUNGBLOOD go to Steve Harvey!! Maybe...........🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🥰🥰🥰

    5. I agree with you I look forward to listening to kiss 104 on Saturday mornings, only one difference though. This the second time he's been dismissed from the station, so obviously there is something wrong with this station, I would rather see him go to another local station and I will follow!

I moved to Atlanta from Chicago when Herb Kent and Richard Padgee was spinning records.Found YoungBlood one Saturday Morning made me feel at home in my new home.Waking up to Spot Light Gold made doing those chores in and outside the house go faster.YoungBlood find your way back to the airwaves " We All Miss You " those of us who can relate to the music that you spin on Saturday Mornings from the era of 50's thru 90' for long as you as your able the Listening Family in the Atlanta area need you back on the Airwaves. Stay Safe Stay Well

  6. Come on Guys. Youngblood is a part of the Saturday Morning tradition for Kiss 104.1. Let's stop being petty and destroying our institution. Work it out!!! Bring Youngblood back ASASP!!!! He is the main reason why I listen to your station. No Youngblood, no listeners!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Hopefully, radio stations will begin to realize that there is more to radio than just the music selection. Radio hosts are just as important. Right now I might as well just listen to a Playlist with no host at all. Youngblood is a radio personality which made his show so flavorful. Please bring him back. He's someone that speaks the language of the seasoned listener. The older population It's really hard to find anything that targets our preferences. Bring Youngblood back.

  8. Miss Youngblood on Saturday mornings! I knew something was up when for the third Saturday he wasn't on. Just read he has left the station. My Saturday morning will not be the same!

  9. i lived in los angeles most of my life and didn't listen to regular radio mostly sirius until 5 years ago my son'in'law in douglasville directed me to listen to a guy from atlanta named Youngblood on my computer. i now live in stone mountain, ga. and was a regular saturday morning listener. i'm at a lost now not hearing that voice over the air waves and his departure from the station.this ain't right for so many fans of saturday day morning radio.....

  10. I'm a trucker from Charlotte and listening to Youngblood on Saturday mornings was a ritual for me. Never met the man, but on Saturdays he was my copilot!!!

    1. "Nobody does it like YoungBlodd, nobody"! Well I'm done as a Saturday morning listener, what's the point; that music on Saturday that's being played now is boring and so regular. Youngblood took us back to when music was music and the host was a family friend talking to you thru the radio!!

  12. I am done... I will no longer listen to this station. No Youngblood...Yes Trump What The Hell is going on in the‘A’?

  13. I'm gone. I turned on Solid Gold this morning (Saturday October 17, 2020) on my way to the grocery store and heard somebody else, and immediately went "who the heck is that?!!!" Came home and Googled it. Didn't realize Youngblood was gone. So I'm gone too. Won't listen. Heads up folks at the station: it's not just about the music - the oldies, the solid gold - it's about what Youngblood brings too. Youngblood was the ONLY reason I listen to 104.1 Saturday mornings. Now I'm out. Don't know why y'all keep trippin.

  14. The only reason I listen to 104.1 is because of Youngblood. Bring him back.

  15. Youngblood made that show on Saturday mornings. As for me, Bye Bye Kiss 104.1. You are missed greatly Youngblood!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Kiss 104.1, I’ve heard of bad business decisions, you have made of the worst in radio history by not respecting your audience and genius of Youngblood. He was the heart of your Saturday morning broadcast. Thank you Youngblood, I’m looking to turning into your next show wherever it maybe on my radio dial!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Youngblood's Spotlight Gold is a Saturday morning tradition in our household and has been for decades. Bring him back! Until then, we are done with Kiss 104.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Like do many others, Youngblood was our EVERY SATURDAY morning guest. We listened, laughed, was informed and encouraged by him. He was the ONLY valuable asset that KISS 104.1 had left! I used to listen to the TJMS until you let him go, so Youngblood was all that was left for us mature listeners. Now there's no point in tuning in to your station. Like me, I'm sure many will find him on another station and tune in there. Good luck

  19. Hell Naw im out Bring him back .i live in wiscionsin now and i listen to him on my bose radio wvwry morning since i left atlanta .YOU HAVE LOST A LISTENER The crap they playing now is just that CRAP

    ReplyDelete
  22. With Youngblood gone...I am out 104.1.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Again, I am truly disappointed in Kiss 104. First with the TJMS, then when you let Art Terrel go and now with Youngblood. You just don't know your listeners!. I will be moving on now. Pandora, Sirus and music from my Ipod will be my go to. I am so glad I was able to download many of the songs Youngblood played on the radio. Youngblood, I will follow you no matter what radio station you join. They will be very lucky to have you and you know how to make us happy!

  24. I moved to Atlanta in '95 and has listened Kiss 104.1 and Youngblood ever since. However I will not listen the station if Youngblood is not doing Spotlight Gold. Please have some sense and bring him back.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I’ve listened to Youngblood for over 30 years. Saturday mornings and his signature opening song by Isaac Hayes has been my ritual ever since I can remember. I used to set my alarm clock just to make sure I heard the beginning of the song. Did I have it bad? Oh please believe! I listened to all 5 hours every Saturday morning up until his signature last song by Brothers Johnson “Thunder thumbs and Lightning licks” To say I am one of Youngblood’s biggest fans is a understatement. His wit, his personality, he is Atlanta. No one like him. I hope he resurfaces on one of the other R&B stations in the city.

  26. Bring Youngblood back now.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bring Youngblood back ASAP!
Or release him from his contract so he can go to another station.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I been listening to Youngblood for along time !!!!!! Every Saturday morning. Just like soul train !!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I cannot believe that Kiss 104.1 FM has let Youngblood go. I wake up every Saturday morning to tune in to hear the beginning songs, his humor, and general talk. I love reminiscing about the songs in I listened to in college. Both my songs grew up on Youngblood on Saturday mornings. No none can replace the memories he provided. Youngblood was my motivation to clean my house every Saturday morning. I know that many of us, who are baby boomers love this music. I miss Art Terrell, Tom Joyner, and Sasha. I will not listen to KISS anymore I am hopeful that Youngblood will land at another station and take every Saturday morning listener with them. KISS needs to realize that listenership is what drives sponsorship and ads. That's call revenue!

  30. My Husband and I are white 70 years old and are longtime listeners of Youngblood. He made
our Saturday mornings. His personality and the way he could make you could forget about
the troubles you were facing at the time. His little stories of growing up were relatable
and the music he played was just a bonus. We will not be faithful listeners after hearing of his departure. Remember the old saying, "If it ain't broke don't try to fix it."

    ReplyDelete
  31. So so disappointed. Saturday mornings with Youngblood were so nostalgic for me. I turned the music up loud and danced, got my exercise and cleaning done. Really missing him. My Saturday morning regime, get up, turn on/he's not there, turn off. Missing him.He was the only reason I listened to your station once a week. PEACE!

  32. I learned this morning by googling why I haven’t heard Youngblood for the past few weeks. I turn on the radio on Saturday morning from 7 to 12 to listen to Youngblood. The listening experience without him isn’t enjoyable as it has been for the past 30 years. Please bring Youngblood back! We that love and listen to Youngblood identity with him. If he’s not coming back, I’ll have to change to another Atlanta Radio Station when I listen to radio. BRING YOUNGBLOOD BACK!!!!

  35. When I moved from Harlem to Atlanta in 2005 I was blessed to happen upon a show on Saturday mornings called spot light gold with Youngblood on 104.1. I was homesick for NY Dj’s Lenny Green, Felix Hernandez, The Chief Rocker Frankie Crocker and Sunday’s with Hal Jackson. Over the last few months Atlanta radio has let go some extremely Talented radio personalities. And now no Youngblood! C’Mon KISS pay the man. I wish the talent currently on air all the best but there is a certain way that Youngblood connects with radio generations that makes the 5 hours seem to go by so fast. Or maybe that’s it......Time is moving by fast and faster And thus change is necessary. As one famous DJ use to say “may you live to be 100 and me 100 minus a day so I won’t know lovely people like you have passed away.” And Youngblood ‘faster than a Double decker peanut butter sandwich.” Help me out Youngblood fans so I can get it right. 40. Although I loved listening to Youngblood on Saturday mornings, I have to wonder why he has left a second time. I figure it must be something serious in order for the station to let someone so powerful to their station leave again. That's just it though- the word powerful. I'm not saying anything negative about Youngblood, so don't attack me. However, I have known people who know they are irreplaceable become very demanding and/or difficult. Regardless, I hope they all can come together and work it out. If not I will make my own play list and keep it moving. Peace.

  41. I don't listen to one radio station, but at certain times I tune in to a particular DJ timeslot because of their relatability. It was Youngblood on Saturdays and his shoutouts to the people at Starlight drive in, lot such and such. Good djs don't grow on trees. Bring Youngblood back. PS I don't listen to 103.3 during the week anymore because Frank is gone. Ijs, you can't hijack my loyalty from one person to another. It don't work like that.

  49. I'm from Detroit and I didn't know Youngblood knew all the northern hits back in the day like Lenny O'Henry "ACROSS THE STREET" and Gene Chandler "RAINBOW 65". Youngblood tells stories like Robert Hall where my mother would by my Easter suit she died of covid 19 on Easter 2020. Bring Youngblood back for the memories and music!

  50. Youngblood was my staple every Saturday morning for decades, even before he transferred to 104.1 from another station. His subtle political commentaries, emphasis on values, and historical perspectives on the songs played and the groups who sang them were great additions to his program. I miss my Saturday morning listening ritual with Youngblood and the sincere connections he made with his listeners.

  51. YOUNGBLOOD IS NEEDED ON 104.1. YOUR STATION IS A STAPLE FOR A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED HIS VOICE ON SATURDAY MORNINGS. YOU HAVE HURT YOUR STATION.

    ReplyDelete
  52. What was the problem Kiss did't want to pay Youngblood? We have to get him back on the radio this other dude is wack. Who is the owner we must protects and boycott the station so the rating will be low. POWER TO THE PEOPLE...

  53. I really don't know what the dynamics are between Youngblood and the executives at KISS 104.1 FM, but I certainly wish that whatever it is, it could get settled and bring Youngblood back ASAP. Saturday mornings are not the same without Youngblood on the radio. Please fix this ASAP!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Saturday mornings just aren't the same without Youngblood! I don't know who this replacement guy is but, he's NOT as good as Youngblood... wherever YOUNG BLOOD lands is where I'll switch!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Okay 104.1,enough of this crap.Whoever’s in charge needs to do whatever they need to do to bring Blood back. I’ve tuned in for 30 years but no more without Ron. As far as I’m concerned, 104.1 fm atlanta can “Kiss my A$$”

  58. Message to Kiss 104.1- I have tried to accept the reality that your station has not retained Youngblood for the Saturday Morning Spot Light Gold Program and have for the last couple of months tried to listen to this new guy, Mike Jamison. I can’t do it any longer. This guy is horrible. He is not the right personality for true Southern Spot Light Gold. He is not able to relate to the seasoned loyal listeners such as myself and thousands of others. I have resided in Metro Atlanta for 30 years and have had the pleasure of listening to Youngblood for many of those years on your station but now my loyalties to your station have waned. The only reason that myself and Many friends have listened to Kiss 104.1 was because of Youngblood and Spot Light Gold. We can take our loyalties to Classix 102.9 if only what we want to hear is old school R&B. It was Youngblood that makes the difference. We have tried but can’t do it anymore. We are out!!!!! Bring Youngblood Back!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Youngblood has been my Saturday morning show for years. That's how I cleaned the house. So disappointed to lose him. There is not much to laugh about right now since we are all staying home, but Youngblood made you laugh. 104.1 Please reconsider and bring him back, he was for your older listeners. You should care about them, too.

As for me I will not listen to 104.1 anymore until he is back. It is obvious you don't care about the seasoned listeners.

  60. We want him back. He knows Oldie Goldie music. We miss his style. Please bring him back!

  64. I can't believe Youngblood left the radio station. That's sad. I will never listen to this new dj on Saturday morning ever again. No Youngblood, no me. It is not the same without him. So that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. 104.1 do not care for our generation! Boycott the station and just don't listen people, we are the one's who have the power if we don't listen. No offense against Mike Jamison , he has a very impressive back ground . But our generation could really relate to Youngblood because after working a hard 8hrs , 5 days a week . Saturday morning's was what I lived for listening to Youngblood talk junk ,play good music and make me and my wife Laugh from 7:00 am until 12:00 noon with his old school jokes and talk about the Musician he meet along the way. But as the story goes, it's more likely about the money they do not want to pay him. Good luck 104.1 will delete this station from my Radio dial. Also Mike plays great Music but it's more to it then just playing music for 5hrs. If saving money is what this whole thing is about , you guys can just let the old music play by it self and let Mike Jamison go. But your trash talking is just not compatible with Youngblood. Good luck 104.1.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Sad for the station it doesn't play the oldest anymore it just plays I will check in now less often

    ReplyDelete
  67. When people talk about what's wrong with Atlanta radio, not bringing Youngblood back is at the top of the list. If the people obviously want it, then make it happen. I forgot the station only cares about profit not the community. How else can the people view this situation?

    ReplyDelete
  68. I will never listen to 104.1 again

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am removing the Kiss 104.1 application from my phone. Youngblood made my Saturday mornings. The management of this station needs to listen to the will of the people. BRING YOUNGBLOOD BACK! I urge more listeners to turn off Kiss 104.1 until Youngblood is brought back!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Please believe that this is not a slight on the new Saturday morning host. But as a vibrant 70 year old DJ I remember when the main feature of a radio DJ was his or her personality. Youngblood was the last of these artists. I know I'm not the only one who found great entertainment value in cleaning the house on Saturday morning while listening to, dancing to and laughing with the incomperable Youngblood. Older Atlantans will remember Alley Pat. A master at bringing the neighborhood to the airwaves. It didn't matter that politicians forgot us, that we didn't have what people in Buckhead had, or whatever daily woes were a fact of life. Alley Pat's personality was large and powerful enough to make you feel like someone no matter your circumstance. Youngblood is the last of these. Not the same personality, but you tuned in for his personality. AS radio has become a corporate nightmare (and I mean all of them) we must search for entertainment on the airwaves by sifting through repitative music, bland, overstated opinions and DJ's whoes personal endorsements for advertisers products mean nothing. Be honest, if Steve Harvey raves about the My Pillow, you change the station only to find Tom Joyner raving about the My Pillow. (just a hypothetial). Youngblood had credibilty because one day while musing about the dinner table, he described the pleasure of eating tomatoes and cucumbers marinated overnight in vineger. This peek into his memory translates into someone who's endorsement means something. After years of watching radio become a robot, the exit of Youngblood finally takes radio out of it's misery. We can bury it forever and move on. Or like me, you can hope that one day someone will hire a DJ for his personality. By the way, I hope the new guy leaves the "Queit Storm" fromat for late-night and puts the bounce back in Saturday morning, (my house is mess).

    ReplyDelete
  71. One Saturday morning I tuned in to the station and Youngblood was gone with no explanation. I thought something serious had happened to him, and then I heard that 104.1 had let him go. Kiss 104.1 has been doing this a lot lately; letting good DJs (who make you want to listen to show) go. The Flavor of the show is gone, and it started fading when you shortened Tom Joyner's Show and then ended the show all together. Young Blood made my Saturday mornings. Especially after a long week of nonsense. Ya'll keep trying to fix something that's not broken!!! You send out questionnaires, but you really don't want to hear what the people have to say, or what they want. I'm done with 104.1!! Youngblood's show was the only show that kept me listening.

  72. We Youngblood back on Saturday morning

  74. We want Youngblood back! This new DJ has no clue what he's doing and he is so damn dry. I have listened to Youngblood since I was a child and he is truly one of a kind. I have removed Kiss from my rotation because you obviously don't respect your listeners.

I have learned about so many different songs that were made back in the day because of him. The person that is on Saturday mornings now, is terrible. It is so annoying to here his voice. Kiss 104.1 needs to get rid of this new guy and bring Young Blood back. Also I guess kiss 104.1 thinks bringing Frank Ski to this station is going to help their rating. They are wrong. He is also terrible and his voice is annoying too. BRING BACK YOUNG BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!

It is obvious that with the volume of responses and number of comments that the listeners love and miss Youngblood and we really don't care what the riff is between you but want him to return to the airways.

Speaking collectively, we don't like your current guy and many of us are dropping off and not listening to your station. You guys are no longer playing through the App or online anymore so you now are dropping even further...why is Management and Ownership so bad now.

If you want your Mature listeners back you have to bring Youngblood back, it's as simple as that.

You must not have realized that We supported You because We supported Him and unless and until he returns we don't plan to listen to your station anymore. A group of us are considering a petition to either have Youngblood back on the air with you or on another local radio station.

Maybe we can start by renting a Hall somewhere and have Youngblood do what we all love to hear him do on the weekends and we go and see him live.

This is a respectful request but not without merit and a backup plan...we just want Youngblood back on Saturday mornings, try to find a way to work it out.

  85. He is a brother from another mother and we will have no other. He touched the heart and soul of his audience with the music he played. His timing was perfect. His humor caused us to pause and relack and live in a moment of laughter that lifted hearts and souls. For the decision makers that romoved my brother from the AirWAYs...Think on This Quote."If It's Not Broke Don't Fix It."
