Remembering Angela Stribling, The Veteran 96.3 WHUR and BET Host

Angela Stribling, the veteran radio host on 96.3 WHUR Washington, D.C. has passed. In recent years she was the imaging voice for the station, along with hosting a midnight show called "Pillow Talk" as well as being the host on WHUR's HD2 Channel station, The Quiet Storm. She would also provide a special edition each year as a tribute to the late Melvin Lindsey, the first host of The Original Quiet Storm which launched in 1976. The Buffalo, New York native began her media career as a news intern at WTTG-TV (now Fox 5) and WOL radio in the sales department.

Here is Angela Stribling's bio in her own words from a few years ago.

Stribling also hosted shows on BET during their formative years as a hub for music videos from Black Artists. She also co-hosted Screen Scene with Melvin Lindsey on the network. Here are some heartfelt words from Donnie Simpson. When you think of Washington, D.C. radio, Angela Stribling's name is right there at the top. RIP Ms. Stribling. You will be missed. Here's a link to the official statement from WHUR radio.

Updated post: The WHUR statement does not mention Angela Stribling’s age, which may or may not be something we want to place too much emphasis on. However, several national media outlets reported and several radio websites got her age wrong. After seeing Paul Porter’s Facebook post, we can confirm that information is inaccurate. (It's lazy journalism to confused her with a woman with the same name born in 1968 in Pennsylvania.) Stribling was 68, based on the information provided by Paul Porter.

Out of respect for Ms. Stribling and her family, we believe it is important to publish information that is accurate and verified.

Paul Porter, a veteran radio host, program director for several stations in New York City and Washington, D.C., an executive at BET, video host on BET, as well as a published author and publisher of raprehab.com, stated he met Stribling in 1983. (If we would have gone with the inaccurate information of her birth date being in 1968; she as a 15 year old native of Buffalo, NY, was living in D.C. and working in radio???). Not possible.

However he cleared things up in a subsequent post on Facebook that Stribling graduated high school in 1975 and would have been 69 on her next birthday.

Angela Stribling is still teaching us. While the coverage and accolades have made me proud… Ai and the press have got her age wrong. Angela would turn 69 on her Birthday October 13th. Here’s a picture of her graduating class in 1975. Check her high school groups.
