Ben Simmons Signs with the Sacramento Kings, Meanwhile ESPN 1320 Parted Ways with Kenny Caraway of "D-Lo and KC"

Just as we were looking for reaction of the Shams Charnia breaking news of Ben Simmons from one of the best sports radio duos in the country "D-Lo and KC", we find out that Kenny Caraway exited the station last month in August. 

A few years ago when the Sacramento Kings (“as rumored”) were considering shaking up the makeup of the team by trading away their up and coming point guard Tyrese Haliburton since DeAaron Fox was entrenched as the King's franchise point guard. One of the landing spots mentioned in trade rumors was the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Ben Simmons. At time most media outlets reported that the deal was never close. Since that time there have been reports that Simmons told the Kings in a meeting back in 2021 that he would not play any other position but point guard. It will be interesting to see Simmons will play in the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season. (They ultimately traded Haliburton to the Indiana Pacers for power forward Domantas Sabonis in 2022. For that matter Fox was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 2025.)  

Back then Kenny Caraway of ESPN 1320 was the one voice that was vehemently set against the Sacramento Kings acquiring Ben Simmons for Tyrese Haliburton, DeAaron Fox or even Davion Mitchell. See his commentary below. (Haliburton led the Pacers to the 2025 NBA Finals against the OKC Thunder.)

Caraway's pairing with Damien Barling on the D-Lo and KC show made for great local sports radio. Not only did they cover the Kings, they weighed in on the Oakland A's temporary move to Sacramento along with extensive discussions on the Bay Area sports teams 49ers, Giants, Warriors and the (Las Vegas) Raiders. The duo also hosted a daily show on 102.5 KSFM the Hip Hop station in Sac-Town. D-Lo in the Afternoon now airs on ESPN 1320 and Barling also host middays on KSFM.

Kenny Caraway has now resurfaced with his own podcast. Four days ago, KC gives his take on the rumor that the Kings were going to sign Simmons after working out for team. As sports media evolves, more and more former radio hosts are going the route of building their own independent platforms.

Here is Caraway with James Ham from 5 years ago. (September 2021) A lot has changed in 5 years in the NBA landscape. The Sixers of course did find a trade partner with the Nets and shipped Simmons to Brooklyn for James Harden... and five years later Simmons is now with the Sacramento Kings, Giannis Antetokounmpo is with the Miami Heat, LeBron James and Jaylen Brown play for the 76ers, and the New York Knicks won the NBA championship after 53 years.
