21 Right Now Music Page

Discover our curation of new, and classic tracks that we call “Urban AAA (Adult Album Alternative).” A step beyond mainstream playlists. Leaning into newer stuff (2010's and 2020's) and older stuff from early 80's, 70's, and some late 60's with a mix contemporary music from time to time. It's a 21 song playlist built upon the feeling that comes with discovering a record, placing it on a turntable, and dropping the needle. Updated frequently.

What is resonating with Gen Z?
  • Authentic organic music with singing and instrumentation that is artist led.
  • Purchasing physical vinyl records and CD's.
  • Discovering music from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sade, Earth, Wind, & Fire and many others.
  • Unearthing rare gems on vinyl.

Sometimes it's good to go back to the 60's and 70's... just ask Pete Rock.

Here's a great interview with Brian Jackson on the World Café, who partnered with Gil Scott-Heron in the early 70's. He talks about his collaboration with some of today's artists on his new album and his reinterpretations on his classic songs with Scott-Heron.

Shout out to NPR's Tiny Desk and the following radio stations (along with their program director and music director) across the country that inspire the above playlist.

Words on the music industry: When will music radio find its fit in the future music ecosystem? (Being an on-air personality, with a 20 second break and “living the culture” is not enough. The culture is being fragmented. Radio needs to find the next curator of music. A DJ with a deep appreciation of music that is unencumbered by the algorithm. That is what it is going to take. Ai is not going to do it. The backlash in coming.)
