Steve Harvey is Dropped by KDAY Los Angeles

L.A. radio station 93.5 The Beat (KDAY) has decided not to renew the contract of "The Steve Harvey Morning Show." The station will go with a new morning show called "The Morning Beat."

A year ago KDAY had an ALL syndicated host with Harvey, Mo'Nique, Wendy Williams, Michael Baisden, and Keith Sweat. Baisden now remains as the station's only syndicated host. KDAY most likely is dropping Harvey as a budget move.

Earlier this week Steve Harvey lost another affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina, when Clear Channel decided to change the Urban AC format on Kiss 105.7 (WMKS). The new format is a Top 40 music station known as "105.7 Hit Music Now."

It looks like Tom Joyner's decision to buy the morning drive time slot at Soul 106.3 (WSRB) in Chicago is paying off in better ratings at the station. The Tom Joyner Morning Show has grown the stations ratings by 300%, from 0.8 to a 2.4 share, in the 25-54-year-old target demo in the latest ratings survey.

  1. I totally disagree with Steve Harvey being completely removed from the stations. He has brought so many personalities to the table and elightend the world with a new found sense of humor that allows us to start our work day off with a smile on their face! Please bring him back. I miss Sis. Odell, Rocco, Tommy's Tips and the Strawberry Letter.

  2. WOW it is so boring driving to work now, well you deffinately lost me!!! it was very uplifting to hear the STEVE HARVEY show..sorry but you lost me as a listener. He was the best!

  3. Much to my disappointment KDAY! Steve Harvey was the best format to perk you up in the morning on the drive to work. Now there is no personality, no style, no flavor, no inspiration, no laughter. Just another radio station... I guess I will buy some books on tape (CD). This new format is serving NO purpose. I really hope you bring Steve Harvey's morning show back where it started in LA. Please reconsider.

  4. I couldn't agree with you more. I AM SO BORED WITH RADIO NOW.

  5. I hate the new show. I love the Steve Harvey morning show please please bring him back. What a let down.

  6. This is truly a major disappointment that you cancelled the steve Harvey Morning Show, he was such an inspiration to everyone, especially our youth. I do not like the new station, therefore, I will be listening to kjlh, because on the way to work, at least I can laugh, and find out what is happening in the black community. Good Luck with your new station, it is indeed mundane.

  7. BORING BORING BORING....Steve Harvey will be missed very much! He was such a powerful voice in the Black Community. I've followed him for many years and will continue to do so. He brought awareness on so many different levels. His style & class superceeds all of the "other" radio personalities. Why would KDAY want to undergo such a major decline in ratings??? Well KDAY it's all down hill from here. Steve Harvey has a very large loyal following and as one of his followers I go as he goes.

  8. I would listen in the morning in between my jobs. One morning I was laughin the other I was hoping I was just missing the dial but to find out that Steve Harvey and the Gang are gone makes me so angry. I dont care who the new line up is. I'm not listening. They have pulled him off from LA twice now. Don't you think that's a hater move. I love him and will cont to follow them via internet. Kday was bogus w/ out them and will be bogus once again. They have lost me as a listener. I think these stations need to look at Power 106. No drastic change. He's been doing his (Big Boy) thing for years and has a commited fan base because its consistant but for simple hate and jealousy Steve Harvey one of the funniest men on radio, they want to take his show. He will pull threw just like he did before.

  9. Everyone should call KDAY until they bring him back...323-337-1600this is where it all began....Lets do what we have to do to get them back. Also, do not buy anything they advertise on the "The Morning Beat" go to the website and do nothing...don't buy anything advertise there either. This will flood the site and maybe they will get the message that we want him back.

  10. Removing KDAY from my programmed stations in the car and in my house. Dropping Steve to save a few coins is RETARDED!

  11. BIG MISTAKE....Steve Harvey in the morning is the best way to get to work. Altough people enjoy music you need talk radio in the morning to help get you started. All music and no personalities is not good I can just listen to my Ipod....I guess I will have to tune in to a new station to get what I am looking for I will listen to Big Boy in the Morning....At least they are live people.

  12. Steve Harvey was a modern day pimp, "where's my money, if you pay me, get my check"! He plays on the emotions of people...He says he a Christian, by never talks about is devotion time with God or ever gives any scripture references for what he believes...Steve's book (Act Like A Women and Think Like A Man!) don't buy into the hype, Satan will beat you at your own game, Ladies the 90 period in his book will not work (do give up the cookie)...Men can always beat you at that game, you extraordinary in your own right, sex out of marriage by Steve's God standard is wrong, and he's telling you to do the opposite. Please don't drink the Steve Harvey Morning Grape Juice.

  14. Steve harvey, Shirley Strawberry, Nephew Tommy, and Carla played essential roles in peoples lives, the laughter and positve inspiration that they brought morning will sorely be missed. During times like these, radio executives and others should not take away inspirational figures. Not every DJ or radio host will acknowledge God or even play Gospel music for that matter. I will play my Gospel albums on my way to work from now on and I am forgetting 93.5 ever existed!

Pray everyday and put God first!

  15. Wow twice in one life time. What's the deal? It was a good format it made you laugh, it made you cry, it made you think. But most importantly they made you listen. What does the Beat have now? Just another radio station. So that means all of your listeners are free to go else where. This sucks, we get certain shows and they can just pull them when ever they feel like it. Well the listeners are the folks that feed the stations income. So let's put the Beat on a diet. No Steve Harvey morning show, I say we boycott the advertisers that pay to be on the show. If not all the advertisers, lets get some of them on board. Protest, protest, protest!

  16. The Steve Harvey Morning Show was my "morning coffee". The show was the only reason I listened to KDAY. I am not actively looking for books on CD for my morning drive - so long KDAY!

  17. Steve Harvey morning show brought so much JOY, LOVE, LAUGHTER, INSPIRATION and HOPE. 93.5 KDAY should be ashamed. Steve had Barack Obama when he was running for the highest office in this country call & talk to the people as well as other celebrities to everyday people who want their voices heard. KDAY has slammed the door on the people, and WE THE PEOPLE slam the door on you. We all need to organize an online BOYCOTT & flood the station with phone calls and their fax machine with faxes by telling them how disappointed we are. CALL Office General Info: (323) 337-1600
and Fax: (323) 337-1633. I am FAXING right now how upset I am over this. Let YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!!!

  18. Doing the right thing is'nt always the most profitable thing.Being a good father, husband or cristian is'nt always profitable, but we got lessons on these daily mixed with humor and grown folks music. There's a void in morning radio, that can only filled by an exceptional man like MR.STEVE HARVY

    ReplyDelete
  19. My first comment is to Bob. I think you are the pimp. It's fine that you may not have liked Steve Harvey or the format of the show, but you don't have the right to tell people what he wrote about was wrong and misleading. There are too many women (Black, White, Hispanic, etc) who didn't have good positive male role models to help us know how to pick a "good man". Or that a man loving you does not mean he hits you. I think his book is much needed. Save you negativity for the trash it is not wanted here.

  20. My second comment is about my sadness over the loss of Steve Harvey and the morning show. Programming has to be about more than the money. Every year radio stations change their format. They are usually getting rid of personalities and formats that didn't work and were not producing the ratings. Steve Harvey and his show were NOT in that category! If you had taken a poll of listeners, you would have found that his show was a step beyond what is normally offered for a morning show. I am disappointed over your decision. I hope you reconsider and soon. I only began listening to your station because of Steve Harvey and now I will have to stop listening for the same reason.

  21. I love the Steve Harvey morning show PLEASE PLEASE bring him back. In the meantime, I will not be contributing as a listener of KDAY 93.5 in Los Angeles.

  22. It is a shame that Clear Channel would remove a positive roll model from the air. Steve Harvey and the morning show have done great things in the community. He has insprired people, lifted spirits, and he has gave prositive feed back to the community. We need more radio peronalities like him. Bring back the comedy, strawberry letter and Toomy's Tips. I look for them every morning. This was another sad day 6/1/09. The removal of the STEVE HARVEY MORNING SHOW!!

  23. kday this is ridiculous Steve Harvey morning show is the best thing ever happened to your station, I will start listening to Big Boy in the morning.

  24. I am at a lost for words!!!!! Steve is and always be a asset to to our people. He has a message that should be heard he is a "TEACHER" Teaching our black men to be MEN & FATHER'S. NO STEVE!! NO LISTENERS!! See ya!

    ReplyDelete
  25. You talking about sick i'm sick. I will no loger support KDAY this is the second time radio has done this to Steve Harvey. And not to let the listners know. You get in your car thinking your going to laugh and all you hear is music and they use Shirley's voic in a commercial to make you think they are still there and they are gong. I don't even listen to radio anymore because there is no one to listen to. KADY you lost a listner STOP BEING MONEY HUNGRY.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow is the word! Removing Steve and the gang is very disappointing for me! To be honest, Steve reminded me that I should be thanking God everyday of my life! I am a commuter and I wait to hear Steve's inspirational speech and the gang, on my 1hr 15min drive! I allow my 5yr who commute's with me to listen to the Disney Channel but at 6am it was all about Steve! Becauce of Steve I am a better Christian ,because he reminded that I should Get closer to God! Gospel CD's will be my inspiration until Steve Returns! No more KDAY for this Commuter!

  27. I cannot believe Steve Harvey is gone. You lost another listener. I would have rather you taken the Michael Baisden show off.

    ReplyDelete
  28. All I can say is WOW to all the comments! I guess I am one of the few that are not saddened by his departure, cuz I sure as heck ain't about to call in or protest about a damn thing. Half these comments are probably from him. I guess God is using him to an extent because to hear some of the comments about how Steve "inspires", "uplifts", "motivates", "he's my morning coffee", etc. is proof, because the Steve I know is fake, backstabbing, insincere, dishonest, and a self-absorbed MALE. MAN is too much of a compliment. But if the rest of the world is moved by his me$$age, then I guess $teve's work is done.

  29. What was Kday thinking to cancel the Steve Harvey monring show and replace it with the Morning Beat. The Morning Beat puts me to sleep and I'm trying to drive to work. I make myself listen to KJLH now, or CD's on my way to work. The drive now is so boring. Bring Steve Harvey back to LA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. What??I can't believe Steve Harvey's contract was not renewed! Clear channel execs have lost their minds by removing the only hilariously funny and real morning radio show. You have lost so many listeners, I'm hoping soon you will find out what a big mistake you have made.
I sure miss LOLing in the car and people wondering what the heck I'm doing. Please reconsider bringing the show back!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. It has not been the same in the mornings since i realized that the SHMS was no longer on the air. My son Kelan had so much fun listening to the whole group on the way to school and work. I don't understand that move. It seems so unfair to the stations dedicated listners. Whatever it takes, please bring them back!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. FINALLY! At last I don't have to hear this modern day minstrel show of Steve shucking and jiving. This dude is a egomaniac. It got sickening listening to the crew kiss his butt everyday. They weren't even allowed to have their own opinion. Steve Harvey is a arrogant, pompous jerk that preys on simple minded, gullible, middle aged country BBW's.

    Good riddance!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am totally bored on my drive to work and while at work without listening to my favorite morning show. No matter what people think of Steve, he kept the morning show on 93.5 the beat entertaining with Sis Odell, Eugene's birthday, Nephew Tommy, and the Strawberry letter as well as the email bag. Sorry but I had to change my station back to 102.3 or listen to a book. Please bring back "The Steve Harvey Morning Show"

    ReplyDelete
  34. Like all of you Steve Harvey is my means of making going to work barable. Once I get to work there would be several of us sitting in our cars waiting on Tommy's tips. K-day may think they are saving money by eliminating Uncle Steve but they are losing money because we all are listening at other stations...so bring him back...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am very upset that 93.5 decided to remove the show. When you are sitting in traffic for 2 hours every morning, Steve Harvey and his crew made the drive more bearable. I will no longer listen to that station at all. Wondering how smart of a budget move it is when you lose so many listeners. Seems to me someone at the station should have reached out to their customers before making such an idiotic decision. Steve Harvey was the best thing that ragedy station had. First we put up with the decrease in coverage area and now this. With all the unemployed people out there, the station owners may want to think about hiring some compentant people to run the station. Hoping Steve will consider taking his show to satelite radio so we can all enjoy him once again.

  36. EVERYTHING IS A CARBON COPY OF YOUR MESSAGE.

  37. I love the Steve Harvey Morning Show. It's too bad that KDAY removed the show. I now listen to AM 1070 in the mornings. It's all news. Steve and his crew is an inspiration. If KDAY brings him back, I will listen to your station again. Until then, I will listen to various stations but never KDAY.

    ReplyDelete
  38. By far that was the DUMBEST move KDAY ever made. Steve Harvey was a morning ritual, his insight, humor and inspiration will be missed, and I will be missing from your listening audience. If you really needed to save some $ you should have let go of Michael Baisden!!! Listening to him is like watching laundry dry or grass grow! Steve is gone and so am I!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am very disappointed that the Steve Harvey show was dropped. I love the laughter and the humor to get my day started. The morning show is very boring. It would be nice to have Steve Harvey back. I will no longer listen to 93.5 the beat.

  40. LB! WRONG my brother/sister, very wrong.

Both Michael and Steve are what is needed in radio. Both speak wisdom in a world that has run amuk.

I no longer listen to KDAY in the morning BUT!! I 'do' tune in at 3:00 p.m. for Michael. Hmpf! In fact, Michael is the only good thing left on KDAY.

And to Marzette, I had a great father and I still enjoy Steve Harvey.

    ReplyDelete
  41. P.S. I will not listen to KDAY except to listen to Michael Baisden!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can't believe there is no Steve Harvey morning show anymore! You have totally lost me as a listener! I tried listening to KDAY LA and after 2 minutes, I just could not handle it and I had to change the station! I want my STEVE BACK!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I will never listen to KDAY again! The Steve Harvey Morning Show was the best part of the morning drive to work. The new format is quite boring.

    ReplyDelete
  44. This is an outrage. I am so tired of all of this crap about budget cuts, it ridiculous and a poor excuse to get rid of someone that makes the day for others. What little was left for us in the mornings is now gone. This is the second time, Los Angeles has pulled this on Steve, I'm sick of people always complaining about something that may and has lifted others spirits. The joy of listening to the morning crew made my day and as of now, I won't be listening to the radio any longer, it's my gospel tapes all the way. What an inspiration this group of individuals were. I hope someone figures out that it's politics and the powers that be that alway want to screw up our lives.

    ReplyDelete
  45. This is HORRIBLE....Why you KDAY be like the Beat and take Steve and them off the air!!!! You all most want to sell your radio station because no one is going to listen to you at that time!!!!!...What a JOKE you all are....Steve was the best thing that could have happened to your station...Now I listen to KJLH...it's not as funny and uplifting but at least I get some conversation going in the morning...But NO ONE...BEATS STEVE HARVEY IN THE MORNING!!!!...YOUR LOST!!!!....He will be back and stronger on another station and your rationgs will continue to drop!!!!!!!!!!!!!..Pissed off!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I listen to AM now...can't stand KDAY (except for Michael Baisden)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm with all of you, no point in turning on the Radio anymore. I can hear the same 5 songs all day long on every other station in L.A.

    Steve "WE MISS YOU"!

    ReplyDelete
  48. OMG! I cannot believe that this is true! KDAY has lost me as a listener. One morning I am shedding tears from laughter and the next I am cursing at the radio for such a stupid move... BRING STEVE HARVERY BACK!... Unless I am listening to Michael Baseden, I don't even tune in to 93.5 anymore because they have nothing exciting for me. I love the morning crew and I listened to them every morning faithfully, I even had a few of my co-workers tuned in because they were alway curious of what had me so happy and craking up in the morning. The morning crew will be missed and until they are back I will not listen to 93.5 in the mornings. A true Steve Harevey fan... SHANTRELL

  49. OMG, I can't believe you dropped the Steve Harvey Morning Show in Los Angeles. This is a HUGE Mistake. My morning drives are not the same. I search and search to find a radio station to make my drive better and NOTHING, so I have resorted to listening to me CD's. You need to bring the show back immediately!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I also agree that KDAY made a hugh mistake by cancelling the Steve Harvey morning show. These days I rarely listen to KDAY anymore. I can't imagine what they were thinking. You did not have to agree with everything that Steve and his crew had to say; but they were the most entertaining group on the air. I only hope that another L.A. station picks them up. In the meantine, I am as bored as hell with all of the L.A. stations.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am sooooo excited that the Steve Harvey Morning Show is returning to Los Angeles on August 10th via 102.3 KJLH. Radio has boring since Steve Harvey been off the air in LA. Thank you Stevie Wonder for bringing Steve Harvey back!!!!!!!!!
