Clear Channel Radio GM's Set to Meet Next Week
Word has it that the general managers from Clear Channel's radio stations have been called to meet at the company's headquarters in San Antonio next Tuesday and Wednesday, January 6 and 7, 2009. Clear Channel has crunched the numbers and some major changes are about to be handed down. The local general managers have be summoned to San Antonio, while sales managers (which usually attend), have been told to stay home to save on cost on the only one overnight stay in Texas.
We're told that high-priced talent which isn’t delivering what owners, Bain/Lee and the Mays-family have decided is an appropriate return on investment may not be around for long. Many stations will be forced to to take on more syndicated programs hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Keith Sweat.
A lot of radio people lives and listeners' radio habits are about to significantly change.
