Philly's Power 99 Talks to Teens about "Flash Mobs" and Social Networking

It builds them up, like their reputation, (student John) Laderer said last night outside a forum on city youth violence arranged by radio station Power 99.

Power 99 (WUSL) hosted a live hour long forum with five teenagers from various Philadelphia public high schools. The students gave their opinion on the so-called "flash mobs" that have wreaked havoc on downtown businesses and has resulted in violent attacks against citizens. There have been four major gatherings since December. Flash mobs, as they have been labeled, are initiated by teens on social networking sites like facebook or myspace.
The teens on the program are part of a group called YO-ACAP, or the Youth Outreach Adolescent Community Awareness Program, which provides prevention services for young people.

Kudos to Power 99 for stopping the music to address a situation that has caused much concern for downtown residents of the city. The radio forum was covered by the Inquirer and Daily News. photo credit Clem Murray Philly.com
