Hip-Hop Pioneer and Producer, Sylvia Robinson, Dies At Age 75


Legendary record producer Sylvia Robinson has passed away at the age of 75, in a hospital in New Jersey. She was born on March 6, 1936. Besides being a singer and musician; she was most notably known for her work on the business side of the music industry as founder/CEO of Sugar Hill Records.

Robinson played a pivotal role in bringing hip-hop music into the mainstream, while forming the group The Sugarhill Gang, and releasing their hit, “Rapper’s Delight” in 1979. Robinson also garnered two R&B soul hits of her own in the early 70's, “Pillow Talk” and “Love is Strange.”
