Nick Cannon lands Morning Radio Gig in New York

A Shake My Head Moment... (SMH) But it's really another WTFhhhck is going on in the radio industry

CBS Radio CHR WXRK-FM (92.3 Now)/New York taps actor, comedian and musician Nick Cannon as the station's morning drive host, weekdays from 6-10am beginning January 19. Cannon's show will be heard on-air, online and through mobile devices such as the iPhone. The San Diego native is well-known for his success as the host of NBC's "America's Got Talent."

Who in their right mind STILL hires an actor to do morning radio? Didn't Whoppi Goldberg teach you radio execs a lesson. There's no way Nick Cannon is going to... -LIVE in the studio. NO WAY! Picture this... Nick leaving Mariah's side every morning between 3:30 and 4 a.m, to take that ride over to the radio station on a cold January morning in New York...yeah right... how long will it be before the PD is encouraging him to have his wife call into the show... What's he gonna do when Mariah says... "Baby, I want you to call in sick this morning?" WHAT would you do?

Another WTF SMH moment: I actually heard a professional on-air host on Power 99 say "vass-a-seen " when reporting on the recall of the H1N1 flu vaccines. That would be "VACK-seen", bruh. His co-host corrected him, but how can you crack the mic and not know how that word is pronounced???

  1. I have responses/answers to some of your questions.

1st question was: Who in their right mind STILL hires an actor to do morning radio?
Response: Why do you think radio execs ARE in their right mind? Faulty assumption to start with.

2nd question: How long will it be before the PD is encouraging him to have his wife call into the show?
Answer: Although he was hired just for that purpose [ just like AGT hired him for a Mariah performance ], they will ask about 5 seconds after his ratings start dropping, which could after his first week.

My comment on "Another WTF SMH moment": You said: I actually heard a professional on-air host on Power 99 say "vass-a-seen " when reporting on the recall of the H1N1 flu vaccine.

First, when does being an on-air host and being professional go hand-in-hand. I haven't heard a professional host on Power99 since the cancellation of the "No Rap Workday" and the departure of Tony Brown from the "Quiet Storm". Once Hip-Hop became the norm for WUSL, in order to keep or gain "street cred" they had to pander to the crowd that "lives and dies for hip-hop", which means ebonics for all.

2nd: How can you crack the mic and not know how that word is pronounced???

Since I don't know which host, I can't be definitve, but not every host is a college graduate. I know some graduates that have less knowledge than I do, and I dropped out. A degree only means you paid for a piece of paper, not that you learned anything while you attended. Just listen to most of the pro athletes in the U.S. It's shameful.

  2. Good comments Fakeem. Thanks for posting. The hosts were the only "duo" team at the station. They are professional only in the sense of the word that they are paid to be on the air in a Top 10radio market, which obviously doesn't mean much these days. Where's Jo Jo Davis and Golden Boy BTW? LOL
