IHEARTMEDIA PHILADELPHIA’S 105.3 WDAS FM CELEBRATES TONY BROWN’S 45 YEARS IN RADIO WITH A SPECIAL TRIBUTE FEATURING WILL DOWNING
105.3 WDAS FM, Philly’s Best R&B and Throwbacks, announced today that it is honoring noted local personality Tony Brown’s 45th anniversary in radio with a special celebration on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Relish in Philadelphia at 8 p.m. ET.
The tribute will include a can’t miss Q&A with Brown about his legendary career and an appearance from soul singer Will Downing. Downing will be previewing songs from his new album Soul Survivor, including new single, "I'm Feeling The Love" feat. Avery*Sunshine.
“I never imagined my radio career would span 45 years, but then again, I love it so much that I never thought of doing anything else,” said Brown. “With God’s blessings, help from my wife Sunshine and fan support, I’ve been able to keep it going.”
For more than 45 years, Brown’s silky smooth voice has been synonymous with the sounds of the night in the Delaware Valley. He currently serves as the host of “The Quiet Storm,” which airs on 105.3 WDAS FM weeknights from 7 p.m. - midnight, and “The Sunday Brunch,” which can be heard on Sundays from 12 - 3:00 p.m.
Brown began his radio career at Temple University’s WRTI in 1969 and started at 105.3 WDAS FM in 1972 with his show “The Extrasensory Connection,” which became known as “The Quiet Storm” in 1976. The show spent eight years on iHeartMedia Philadelphia’s Power 99 FM before returning to 105.3 WDAS FM in 1997, where it continues to draw a devoted following of listeners.
Brown also co-wrote “The Quiet Storm” signature theme song “The Quiet Storm” with Bert Willis, Rob Arthurs, and Rudy Gay. Brown has received numerous awards including Radio & Record’s 1999 Industry Achievement Award, the 2002 Vaughn Harper Excellence in Radio Award, and the 2006 March of Dimes Achievement in Radio Award.
