100.3 The Beat Supports Town Victimize by Arsons

The following post demonstrates the community action that makes local radio great; but somehow is missing when corporate radio dictates syndicated programming in almost every air shift.

From R&R Radio One urban WPHI (100.3 the Beat)/Philadelphia is lending support to its community of listeners, many of whom were recently victims of arson. Forty-five miles outside of Philadelphia, in the city of Coatesville, Pa., there has been a string of arson attacks. In response to the immediate need, afternoon host Poochman will take his show on the road, collecting donated items such as clothes, coats, blankets, pillows, sheets, mattresses, space heaters and imperishable food goods for the displaced victims. "We believe in assisting our listeners when tragic times affect them," said Elroy Smith, OM for Radio One/Philadelphia. "Moments like this we just cannot ignore. That is why we are reaching out to the community of Coatesville and surrounding areas to show some compassion for their fellow neighbors." On Saturday (Feb. 7), Poochman and the Beat will be broadcasting from Coatesville Memorial Community Center, located at 99 N. 9th Ave., from 2-6 p.m.
