BJ Murphy and WGIV Salute Black History Makers Of Tomorrow

"Doug Banks Show" Added to Station Lineup

Charlotte radio morning man BJ Murphy and his morning crew kicked off black history month by not only adding “The Doug Banks Show” to the stations afternoon drive lineup, they also saluted youth radio and TV broadcasters recently at The North Carolina Film Factory.

The Film Factory along with Carolina Kids News trains youth who are interested in careers in radio and Television. Hip Hop Filmmaker/Cool Out host Tim Greene kicked off his “Black History Makers Of Tomorrow Tour” in Charlotte with WGIV. “I think that it’s a great idea that Tim is taking this tour into communities across the country and celebrating our talented youth and leaders of tomorrow”. “It’s great that we salute the black history makers of the past, but we must also recognize the future black history makers and future broadcasters who will be telling our stories to the world tomorrow” say’s BJ Murphy. The tour will hit the top 15 major markets during black history month. Tim Greene will also be featured on a black history month “Visions” special that will air on the ABC Network.

The cameramen followed Tim on his tours and will spotlight his dedication to giving back to communities all across the country without having any sponsors as well as his new radio project “Tim Greene’s Big Morning Thang”and his new “Youth Hip Bop Orchestra”. The Orchestra features 7 to 12 year old musicians who play instruments like the violin or cello and are dressed in black tuxedos and gowns and they write and perform classical orchestrations.

“I meet thousands of kids around the country in under-served communities who need an outlet to create, and many of these kids do not want to be rappers or basketball players. They want to be creators of positive mind enhancing product. I’ve talked to at least 800 African American students across the country on my tours who want to be valedictorians (The student with the highest academic rank in a class who delivers the valedictory at graduation). The “Youth Hip Bop Orchestra” will even tour and release classical Hip Bop mix tapes later this summer say’s Greene.
