Charlamagne Tha God's First Book "Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It" is Here

We take a tour of some of the media platforms that Radio/TV/Media personality Charlamagne Tha God has recently appeared in electronic and print media. No DJ/On Air Radio Personality has ever garnered this much attention for a book release. Kudos to his publicist.

We first learned of Charlamagne back in 2005, when he conducted an infamous interview with Music Video Model Buffie the Body. From there, Charlamagne transitioned from a small market South Carolina radio to being hired as a co-host on the Wendy Williams Experience on 107.5 WBLS. As we learn much later on, Wendy's husband and manager, Kevin Hunter, hired Charlamagne as host-but his pay was a place to stay in New York City area, but zero salary. In other words, he didn't get paid.

From there Charlamagne became the morning host of WPHI 100.3 The Beat in Philly. While there he interviewed rapper Beanie Sigel on a Friday morning over the phone. It contained some disparaging comments about Jay-Z and Bean's time with State Property. Charlamgane was called inside the PD's office and fired the following Monday back in 2009. We always wondered if  Radio One held on to Charlamagne would 100.3 The Beat still exist. (100.3 is now WRNB. WPHI became HOT 107.9, and now it's known as Boom 103.9.) We figured Charlamagne would have found a way back to the world's number one media market, New York City which eventually happened when he landed at Power 105.1 and The Breakast Club. And the rest as they say is history. The firing was the best thing that could have ever happened for Charlamagne.

From Book Publisher Simon and Shuster:
Charlamagne Tha God—the self-proclaimed “Prince of Pissing People Off,” co-host of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and “hip-hop’s Howard Stern”—shares his unlikely success story as well as how embracing one’s truths is a fundamental key to success and happiness.

In his new book, Charlamagne Tha God presents his comic, often controversial, and always brutally honest insights on how living an authentic life is the quickest path to success. Beginning with his journey from the small town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina to his headline grabbing interviews with celebrities like Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Hillary Clinton, he shares how he turned his troubled early life around by owning his (many) mistakes and refusing to give up on his dreams, even after his controversial opinions got him fired from several on-air jobs. Combining his own story with bold advice and his signature commitment to honesty at all costs, Charlamagne hopes this book will give others the confidence to live their own truths.

From the New York Times:

Charlamagne Tha God Puts His Straight Talk in a Book

Back when he was a young radio D.J. in Columbia, S.C., Charlamagne Tha God had a regular feature on his show called “The Ghetto Psychiatrist.” Listeners called in to seek advice, which the host would offer in a style that was opinionated and blunt.

“Always, historically, throughout the ’hood, everybody would come to me with their problems,” Charlamagne said, sitting inside the Roxy Hotel in TriBeCa one recent afternoon. “Self-help is something that I’ve always been into. I thought I was going to be a psychiatrist.”
