Wendy Williams Profiled in The New York Times Magazine

The New York Times interviews Wendy Williams in the Times Magazine section.

"Wendy Williams is the unabashed id of daytime talk TV, a host who gleefully splashes around in the same celebrity gossip pool into which her peers genteelly wade. Williams’s brashness, honed during her ’90s run as a controversy-seeking D.J. on New York’s Hot 97 radio station and then perfected over the last decade on “The Wendy Williams Show,” has made her nearly as much of a celebrity as those whose foibles and failings she scrutinizes live on camera five times a week.

But over the last year the 55-year-old has, for the first time, found herself in the tabloid glare, as her marriage of 21 years collapsed amid substance abuse and rumors of infidelity. She has learned some lessons, though not the ones you might expect."

Wendy started her professional career in the Virgin Islands, then briefly in Washington, D.C. at 1450 WOL radio where she was hired by Cathy Hughes. Wendy then became the morning host on 98.7 Kiss FM (WRKS) until Emmis moved her over to Hot 97 (WQHT) where she made her mark in radio. After a quite controversial and tumultuous run, she was fired in 1998. She restarted her career at Power 99 (WUSL) in Philadelphia with the legendary Carter & Sanborn. She was eventually given the lead hosting duties on the Dream Team Morning Show which included Colby Colb, Dee Lee, and Quincy Harris (Q Deezy).

In 2001 she returned to New York City on 107.5 WBLS, where one of her co-hosts on the syndicated Wendy Williams Experience was Charlamagne the God. In 2008 Wendy landed a six week Summer test run for a daytime TV show. In 2009, with a deal in hand from Fox, she fully launched her daytime TV show, The Wendy Williams Show.

That same year she left radio and has focused on TV ever since.
