Inspirational Graduation Message from WURD Radio Host 'The Rapping Professor' Aaron Smith

Here's an inspirational message from Temple University's Dr. Aaron Smith. With the ongoing pandemic, college graduates and high school seniors will not get the opportunity to participate in graduation ceremonies among their peers, friends, and family. Facebook and YouTube are preparing to launch virtual graduations very soon. We expect these types of virtual programs on social media platforms to ramp up in the upcoming weeks. There's an opportunity to fulfill a void that has occurred as a result of the coronavirus.

Here's a bit more on The Rapping Professor, the author of the rap. He hosts a Monday afternoon talk show on WURD Radio (96.1 FM and 900 AM in Philadelphia.) Smith was a former morning host at the station. He has stated that his show shook or stirred things up in Philadelphia market to the tune of 100,000 listeners. A year ago he took on a new role at the station with the return of Solomon Jones.
 


From WURD Radio: Dr. Aaron Smith currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Africology and African American Studies at Temple University. He is the author of “The Murder of Octavius Catto” (featured in the Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia 2015). Smith has also published multiple entries in the Encyclopedia of African Cultural Heritage (2015) and a chapter on James Baldwin titled, “Boundless Baldwin” recently published in, Contemporary Critical Thought in Africology and Africana Studies.  His innovative artistic presentation style has gained him the name, “The Rapping Professor.”

What else is there to know. Smith along with his brother Martin, also a college professor, had an opportunity to win $1 million on the FOX TV show 'Beat Shazam' with Jamie Foxx last year.



Here is his radio show below where he touches on a number of topics. The program airs the independently owned Black radio station in Philadelphia. The show is fast paced and doesn't lack for callers. We can only describe the show as a modern Hip Hop version of the Petey Greene Show that aired on 1540 WOL radio in Washington, D.C. from 1966 to 1982...and Reggie Bryant, a Philadelphia talk show legend.
