Radio 95.1 Rochester Launches 'The Big Show' to Replace Fired Racist Ranters 'Kimberly and Beck'
Earl David Reed, Megan Carter, and Pat McMahon have been tapped to replace 'Kimberly and Beck' at Radio 95.1 in Rochester, NY. The iHeartRadio station fired the afternoon duo back in June after a racist rant where the hosts used the term "N-word" and thuggerish to describe looters attacking a man and woman business owners in a video footage.
The comments made by Kimberly and Beck sparked outraged throughout the Rochester community.
The full audio of the rant. The producer chimed in by telling Kimberly and Beck to not to use those words on the air.
Kimberly and Beck offer their apologies.
It seems they have gone down this road before...
Below is the announcement of the new show on Radio 95.1.
Radio 95.1, Home of Brother Wease and DiTullio & Moran, announced today the debut of “The Big Show,” effective immediately. “The Big Show” will broadcast weekdays from 2 – 7 p.m.
“The Big Show” will be hosted by Earl David Reed, Megan Carter and Pat McMahon. Every afternoon the hosts will entertain listeners with their unique takes on the top headlines of the day and topics that focus on the community’s general interests. The show is a non-stop blend of hilarious conversation, pop culture headlines, news and information, sports, and even the occasional dose of parenting and relationship advice. Interactive and socially-engaged, for listeners, the dynamic trio are their friends, and they don’t want to miss a chance to hang out with them daily.
Reed is a nationally recognized stand-up comedian who has played some of the nation’s biggest comedy clubs and has appeared on “The Tonight Show.” Carter most recently served as the afternoon host on iHeartMedia Rochester’s KISS 106.7. McMahon has also been an important contributor to iHeartMedia Rochester’s success in his six years with the company.
“Earl, Megan and Pat clicked from the minute we put them together,” said Joe Bonadonna, Program Director for Radio 95.1. “They are the three friends you want with you when you’re getting a garbage plate, grabbing a Genny Light or spending the day at Seabreeze.”
A Brief Review of TBS: On cursory listening, I have found the recently debuted “Big Show,” featuring Earl David Reed, Megan Carter and Pat McMahon, an over-the-top, radio-broadcasting inept, noisy delivery—too fast, too loud, too jumbled (in-studio participants seeming to talk over each other, constantly laughing at what may or may not be either understood or humorous to an audience). Loud may work in grand venues or open-space arenas—or in front of large audiences plied with mind-altering substances—but it doesn’t work in the intimate realm of radio listening. Also, the on-air personalities seem lacking in prior preparation for a painfully long on-air stretch; and painfully lacking in command of the English language. Radio broadcasting in the Rochester market is generally substandard; actually, very bad. “The Big Show” joins that substandard class of radio broadcasting. The public deserves better. Perhaps TBS will improve. But I doubt it.
