NBC 4 Presents a Three Part Series on 'The Quiet Storm' on 96.3 WHUR and Its Original Host Melvin Lindsey



From NBC 4 WRC-TV Washington- On a Sunday night in May 1976, a slow jam revolution kicked-off at WHUR-FM. The music genius of a Howard University junior, Melvin Lindsey, filled the airwaves and created the blueprint for a new music format at radio stations across the world, “The Quiet Storm.”

While “Quiet Storm” creator Melvin Lindsey was at the height of his radio and television career, he privately dealt with a  deadly disease until he decided to go public about his “quiet storm.”








Melvin Lindsey was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2021. His legacy still lives on through “The Quiet Storm” at WHUR and countless other stations around the world.
