VIDEO: Wiz Khalifa - Black And Yellow - Pittsburgh Rapper with No Hometown Urban Radio Airplay

The song "Black and Yellow" has
become a Top 10 Urban/Hip Hop hit all over the country but because 106.7 WAMO radio was the only Hip Hop station in the 'Burgh and closed shop more than a year ago, the song is not heard on urban radio in rapper Wiz-Khalifa's hometown. The popularity of the song is huge among the players with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers and it's become their anthem before games. It has even spawned remixes from Snoop Dog, Kanye West, Rick Ross and Meek Millz.

The fact that this song is a hit confirms what many people in the Hip Hop scene in Pittsburgh were saying at the time of WAMO radio demise. They said it didn't matter because they didn't play local artists. So Wiz-Khalifa was able to generate buzz and market himself without the help of urban radio...interesting because there was no PD inbox to fill or radio station door to bang on.

The song is heard on Clear Channel owned Top 40 station 96.1 Kiss and Hip Hop internet station 101 The Blaze based in Pittsburgh.

From the article- Black and Yellow Fever: Top 15 hit, Waken Baken Tour has everyone buzzing about rapper Wiz Khalifa by Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"Wiz Khalifa left Pittsburgh in September as a perennial up-and-comer with a huge buzz (pun intended) and came back home with his name bumping up against stars like Eminem, Nelly, Rihanna and Bruno Mars on the pop charts."

"When Wiz was interviewed by the Post-Gazette back in 2005, at age 17, he said, "We've got a football team. But we really don't have too many musicians, especially in hip-hop, where you can say, 'That dude's from Pittsburgh. That's Pittsburgh right there.' There's nobody out there like that. And I hope to be one of the first to step out and put us on the radio."
