Ilyasah Shabazz, Malcolm X's Daughter Walks Out on NPR Radio Interview

Ilyasah Shabazz, one of six daughters of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz, walked out of an interview on NPR's 'Tell Me More' after saying, "I'm a little annoyed by this discussion because this is not what I agreed to."

Michel Martin, host of the program, had asked about the controversial passages in Manning Marable's new biography "Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention". The questioning centered on alleged infidelity on the part of her mother and her father's alleged homosexual encounter with an older white man during Malcolm's earlier days as a street hustler.

During the interview Ilyasah Shabazz also mentioned that Dr. Marable failed to specifically interview her, surviving siblings of Malcolm X, or her sisters for the book, even though he had been doing research on it the last 20 years. The thing for sure that has generated the most buzz about the book is the supposed sexual infidelity and encounters surrounding Malcolm X, rather than the work of the man. Seems like sensationalism over substance works every time.

Ilyasah Shabazz is the author of "Growing Up X: A Memoir by the Daughter of Malcolm X", published in 2002.
