Format Change Coming to Power 105.1 KC's Hip Hop and R&B as Entire On Air Staff Exits

A blowout has happened at Power 105.1 (KCJK-FM) in Kansas City as Shay Moore and PD/Midday Jowcol ‘Boogie D’ Dolby are confirmed to be no longer with the station. Ivani and Jess Live have also exited the station.

Cumulus Media, which owns Power 105.1, is in the midst of a nationwide staff downsizing across the country, therefore a format change and staff exits are not a surprise. Kansas City which had two hip hop, the other one being Hot 103 Jamz (KPRS-FM) which is owned by Carter Broadcast Group, the oldest black owned and family operated radio broadcast company in the United States, had performed better ratings wise in the market. In today's media landscape, two similarly formatted urban stations in the same market, unless it's in Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Atlanta, is rare.

Update:

Cumulus Media has launched “Hits 105” which is a rebranding of 107.3 The Vibe” (KMJK-FM). As of now the new format, which is CHR/Pop/Top 40, is running on both 105.1 and 107.3. Taking a listen today, 107.3 is directing listeners to change their presets to 105.1. Morning host Tyler Frye stated that the Hits 105 simulcast will end on 107.3 by the end of the month.

Now back to the station formerly known as Power 105.1, naturally Shay Moore's post on Facebook has garnered an outpouring of comments. Many listeners are encouraging her to start a podcast.

The New York native, with a ton of radio experience from Buffalo, to Dallas, to Charlotte, to Atlanta; had really established herself in the Kansas City market. She previously hosted mornings on Hot 103 Jamz. This is a great segment that engages listeners on the stadium naming rights issue and in particular the Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium debacle which never caught on with the pubic.
