Charlamagne, Scottie Beam, Ebro Laura Rosenberg Have Plenty to Say About 107.5 WBLS and Hot 97

Following on what now is becoming the infamous Hot 97 "falling apart" rant from Mero and Kazeem Famuyide of “Mornings with Mero”, more specifically the claims that Hot 97 is out performing The Breakfast Club and Power 105.1, Charlamagne The God took to the airwaves to dispute the claims. 

Numbers that are available publicly via Nielsen Audio show ratings for an Average Quarter Hour Share for Persons 6+, Mon-Sun 6AM-Mid. Which means they measure what stations listeners have on (or even what might be playing in the background at work) during 15 minute intervals. This is for people that have the PPM meter on them for anyone that is 6 years of age or older (of course a 6 year old doesn't carry around a meter). Ratings for each specific demographics are not generally shared with the public. This is reserved for station personnel, advertisers, and marketing firms. Charlamagne however shared it to make a point. In ratings available to the public, Hot 97 is somewhat competitive with Power, but only in 6+. But no one really cares about or discuss those numbers, especially advertisers and sales people.    

Why did Charlamagne get so heated? (It doesn't matter at the end of the day what others are saying. Who cares what so called content creators, who've never been inside a radio station let alone knows what's goes on there, have to say on social media. Let them clip away. Perhaps the lazy journalism comment referring to the TMZ story struck a nerve.) However as Uncle Charla, you always protect the brand. Also you have to wonder what type of information is being disseminated over at Hot 97 regarding ratings. ???

Next let's get to media personality Scottie Beam, the daughter of New York radio legend Shalia Scott, formerly with 98.7 Kiss FM and 107.5 WBLS. Shalia is currently the midday host on Classix 107.9 in Philadelphia. (Like LeBron James, she works in Philly and lives in New York City.) Scottie Beam, the self proclaim Nepo Radio Baby, having practically grown up at 98.7 Kiss FM, under her mother's wing and later earning an on-air position on Hot 97’s morning show, is outraged by the current state of both WBLS and Hot 97.

Last but not least, former Hot 97 hosts Ebro, Laura, and Rosenberg devoted a large portion of their daily show which streams on YouTube and Patreon on the dire situation at Hot 97. However one of the most troubling parts of their discussion centered on the deplorable condition at heritage Black R&B station at WBLS. It's quite unsetting to discover the working conditions at WBLS as Ebro stated at the 32:00 minute mark, which he describes as a space that is smaller than his bedroom and filled with black mold. 

The legendary home of the station founded by attorney Percy Sutton as WLIB-FM in the early 70's, the home of Hal Jackson, the home of the best radio personality in the history of music radio Frankie Crocker, and others like Ann Tripp, Gary Byrd, Bob Slade, James Mtume, Fred Buggs and countless others. They transformed WBLS into the number one music station in the country. (Perhaps some may consider Howard Stern, but Frankie is second to none.) This is one of the best discussions ever... about the behind the scenes things that happen in Black radio.
