"At the end of the day - It's Charlamagne that got fired"
Let's put the rumors to rest
Charlamagne speaks on being fired from 100.3 The Beat and the so-called Jay-Z diss record from Beanie Sigel. He says he's pretty sure that Jay-Z has bigger fish to fry than to concern himself about a radio personality conducting an interview. (So the rumors aren't true in Charlamagne's eyes, through his tweets, or in an interview with Vibe TV)
What's next for Charlamagne? There's a few job offers along with the webisodes with Lil' Duval and reporting for the Wendy Williams TV show. It's hard to believe for many that Radio One is really going into another direction. Their business model most definitely resembles the kings of syndication, Clear Channel. Charlamagne stated with us that his numbers were very good within the key women's demographic this past summer. The Beat's competition, Power 99, dropped Big Boy's Neighborhood last summer in search of a new morning host to compete with Charlamagne. That job eventually landed in Tarsha "Jonesy" Jones' lap.
Despite his Twitter tweets, (Presently on a Subway platform singing Boyz 2 Men "End Of The Road" collecting change w/ a hat that's not mine...) Charlamagne should be good for now. He had a two year contract with Radio One according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, which also reported that his ratings only increased with Men 18-34; (so we know the advertisers don't really care that the homies were tuning him in.)
What does it all mean: He will get compensated for that contract and you won't hear Charlamagne on the radio in a city that already has a Radio One station anytime soon because of the non-compete clause in the contract. His next move should be interesting...
