The Sports Groove with Mark Gray: Kobe Can’t Be The Best Ever Until He Beats The Celtics

Before the NBA Series got under way, the chatter among many (especially from Reggie Miller over at TNT) was that Kobe Bryant was not only the best player in the NBA, but maybe the best of all time.

But before we annoint Kobe the best of all time over Michael Jordan, Mark Gray, the weeknight sports host at WOL radio in Washington, D.C., says Kobe is not the best all of time even among the Los Angeles Lakers.

Gray blogs on the NBA Championship Series between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. His show "The Sports Groove" airs from 7-10 p.m. ET on 1450 WOL and worldwide at WOLDCNews.com. With the Celtics up 3-2 and on the brink of another NBA Title, this series could become the defining moment of Kobe Bryant's career.

"To those who still want to pose the Kobe versus Michael Jordan question regarding who is the best player ever be advised that these NBA Finals are the defining moment in the Black Mamba’s career. As a lifetime Laker Bryant takes his place amongst the likes of Wilt Chamberlin, Elgin Baylor, and Jerry West as players who have gotten to the NBA Finals and haven’t solved the mystery of the Boston Celtics.

Until he finds a way to slay that dragon Kobe can’t be considered the best player of all time. In fact he can’t even be considered the greatest Laker ever. No matter how many championships won if he doesn’t beat the Celtics that honor will be shared by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the pantheon of purple and gold."
