Rickey Smiley in, Tom Joyner out at Power 92 Chicago

Big changes once again at Power 92 WPWX as word has it that The Tom Joyner Morning Show will be replaced by The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. The TJMS will continue on Crawford Broadcasting co-owned station the former "Soul" 106.3 WSRB. The station is now known as "Real Radio 106.3" as a syndicated music-talk hybrid format.

Now back to Power 92. They have also released veteran radio personalities Trey Da Choklit Jok and Sam Sylk as well. Trey hosted late mornings at the station from 9AM-12 noon. He was the previous morning host before making room for Joyner. Sam Sylk was the afternoon host. The TMJS can't be too happy with this news because WSRB doesn't have a strong signal throughout the Chicagoland area. The TJMS signed on with the Hip Hop formatted station Power 92 in June 2010 to cover the region much better. After a year, apparently the powers that be at Power 92 have decided that Joyner is not a good fit at the station.

Power 92 has tweeted this on Twitter to their listeners: YOUR MORNINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET FUNNIER...LITERALLY! HOW YA'LL FEEL ABOUT @RICKEYSMILEY COMING TO THE CHI?

  1. Love Ricky Smiley, but he's no Tom Joyner for the old schoolers. True Power 92 is not for us but the 106.3 signal is too weak to be viable, I do not like all the static, so this is a dilemma for me

  3. This is UN-AC-CEP-TA-BLE! Morning radio needs to entertain as well as inform the community on serious and not so serious matters. No one and I mean no other radio personality does it better or even come close to delivering a high caliber morning show like Tom, Jay and Sybil via the TJMS. A fan and admirer for life. Peace and Blessings.

  4. What were you thinking taking Tom Joyner off the air. Have you lost all control of the station? Ricky Smiley is not the fit for this time frame. If you want to keep good listners bring back quality radio and not a bunch of foolishness in the mornings. The Ricky Smiley show is the worst radio I have heard in some time.

  5. Ricky Smiley is not funny! I find it hard to believe that in the whole city of Chicago, we can't find decent radio personalities! Power 92, you need to begin looking for another replacement!

  6. I really, really miss Tom Joyner. Although grateful I can somewhat hear Tom on 106.3; but its so frustrating fading in and out....missing vital funny comments from Tom, Sybil, and Jay. My mornings aren't the same. I feel like I'm going thru withdrawls....scared I will oneday not be able to kick-it with Tom and them! OPRAH....TYLER...SOMEBODY, DO SOMETHING! I really need them in the morning!

  7. I never found R Smiley funny at all. He is loud and not as informative as my brother Joyner. Tom covers everything and the team gets entertained throughout the show.
Someone must be on something to replace Joyner, one of these days will get a better signal and enjoy his show again.
