Angie Martinez Doubled Her Salary to go to Power 105.1
Sources tell the New York Post's Page Six that Power 105.1 offered Angie Martinez at least doubled her salary to jump ship and move up the dial. The reported salary was in the “high six figures.” Martinez was the host of Hot 97’s “Afternoon Drive” broadcast with DJ Enuff. She is set to do afternoons on the Clear Channel owned Hip Hop station in New York and on Miami's 103.5 The Beat later this summer. We find it interesting that Martinez' Hot 97 contract did not include a non-compete clause that would stipulate she'd have to be off the air for upwards to a year.
The NY Post item also mentions that during a dinner for stand-up comedian Rickey Smiley thrown by Uptown magazine, guests were buzzing that Hot 97 may pick up Smiley’s radio show, which is syndicated in 70 markets. However, we see the scenario of that show replacing The Hot 97 Morning Show featuring Ebro, Rosenberg, Cipha Sounds, and Laura Stylez as being highly unlikely. Perhaps the weekend edition of the show on Hot 97 is what is being planned.
In a related item, the New York Daily News reports that Angie Martinez and former Elvis Duran in the Morning host Carolina Bermudez, along with actress Brooke Shields are being considered as possible replacements for departed hosts Sherri Sheppard and Jenny McCarthy on the ABC daytime talk show 'The View.'
