Buffalo Heritage Station WUFO Will Become Power 96.5 FM

Buffalo, New York's heritage AM station WUFO currently known as “Mix 1080” will reformat its playlist with R&B Oldies and Classic Hip-Hop and become “Power 96.5” on Wednesday, August 2.

The station will continue to broadcast on 1080 AM, but with the launch of the station’s new translator W289AU at 96.5, it will image itself as "Power 96.5." The station will still carry Tom Joyner in mornings and Michael Baisden in the afternoons. “Power 96.5” will launch the “96 Days of Summer” contest with station events to mark the occasion as they ask Western New York to #FlipTheSwitch.

WUFO 1080 AM began broadcasting on November 2, 1962 with famed Cleveland Disc Jockey Eddie O’Jay as its first On-Air personality. Eddie O’Jay is also credited as being the person who named the legendary R&B group “The O’Jay’s.” Throughout the years WUFO has been through a few format changes such as Soul/R&B, urban Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Talk, News, Sports, and Oldies. WUFO was the training ground for Buffalo natives Frankie Crocker, Imhotep Gary Byrd, and Jerry Bledsoe. All who became legendary Disc Jockeys in New York City and for Bledsoe in NYC and at WHUR and Majic 102.3 in Washington, D.C. as well.
