HBO Selects Charlamagne tha God as Host of 'The Gray Area'

Charlamagne Tha God of the syndicated morning show The Breakfast Club has inked a new deal with HBO as host of the upcoming show "The Gray Area."  The show will be a series of four interview specials.

HBO EVP Nina Rothenstein said, “Charlamagne brings a provocative, thoughtful and always honest voice to all of his interviews.  We think these specials will be surprising and enlightening and we look forward to seeing who he brings to the table."

Charlamagne added,  “I feel extremely blessed to be able to announce my official partnership with HBO on a new conversation series which will provide a safe space for 'unsafe' people to curate their stories and control their own narratives.  The reality is, when it comes to people's stories, it's not black or white, it's always an area that's a shade of gray and that's usually where the lies end and the truth begins, and this show will give those people an opportunity to share their truth.”

Charlamagne began hosting 'The Breakfast Club' on Power 105.1 WWPR-FM in New York City in 2010. His moment in the spotlight came in 2014 when he co-hosted MTV New Year's live from Times Square and he then went on to work as a correspondent for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show. Charlamagne previously starred in TV shows such as 'Guy Code,' 'Guy Court,' and 'Girl Code,' all of which are reality comedy television series that air on MTV2.

Charlamagne's national presence began in 2005 when he was brought in to co-host The Wendy Williams Experience on 107.5 WBLS. After being fired from that show in 2008 (although he was not paid) he landed the morning hosting duties on Radio One's Philadelphia Hip Hop station 100.3 The Beat for a very short stint. He was let go in 2009 after a controversial interview aired with Beanie Sigel, where the former State's Property rapper had some disparaging things to say about Jay-Z. Since that time Charlamagne's career has ascended, while The Beat no longer exists as the 100.3 frequency is now known as WRNB.
