WURD Radio Brings Back Solomon Jones and Expands Dr. Aaron Smith's Role
The daily talk show on FM radio "Your Voice with Solomon Jones" was forced to go digital after the format change from gospel to classic R&B at Radio One's 107.9 FM in December 2018. His show once heard on Praise 107.9 FM moved to Praise Philly online and on HD2 radio. The new format on Classix 107.9 did allocate a two hour slot in recent months for Solomon Jones to host his talk show on Saturday mornings.
However it wasn't enough to satisfy Jones' listeners or the community. He will continue to hosts on Classix 107.9 once a week as well as appear on The Quincy Harris Morning Show three times a week on 100.3 WRNB, and now has returned to the station where he began his talk show radio career at 900 AM and 96.1 FM WURD. Jones joined Radio One in 2017 after a three year run at WURD.

Jones is the author of eight novels, including the critically-acclaimed "Pipe Dream" (Random House), and has been featured nationally by media outlets like NPR and CNN Headline News. He also blogs for NPR station WHYY and is a featured columnist for Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.
With Solomon Jones' return to WURD as its morning host on “Wake Up With WURD”; former host and Temple University Professor Dr. Aaron Smith will take on a new role with the station.
Smith, known as “The Rapping Professor,” will go live in the community with “WURD Show On the Go,” a series of live, in-community audio, video and live broadcasts. He will leave the morning show to spearhead the station’s strategy to deepen community engagement.

“We are extremely excited to announce these changes at WURD,” said Sara Lomax-Reese, WURD president and CEO. “Having both Solomon Jones and Dr. Aaron Smith on the WURD team will allow us to deepen our journalistic coverage and community engagement in ways that will be transformative for the station and the community.”
WURD is the only African-American owned talk radio station in Pennsylvania, and one of the few remaining in the country.
