Dust Has Settled (We Think) Here Are the Changes at Radio One and on The Morning Hustle
This is a run down of what has occurred at Radio One.
The Morning Hustle, the syndicated morning show from Radio One and Reach Media have parted ways with On-Air Jordan. There isn't much information regarding his departure. He's deleted all social media. The show was conceived at 93.9 WKYS in D.C. along with Angie Ange and Lore'l in June 2019. It was relaunched with lead host Headkrack and Billy Sorrells in January from Atlanta. "On Air" Jordan, formerly known as Shorty da Prince, was a familiar voice to DC listeners as he was the host of WKYS's night show from 2014-17. The St. Louis native also hosted a show in that city, Detroit, as well as a host on BET's 106 & Park.
Dyana Williams exited afternoons at R&B Oldies “Classix 107.9” in Philadelphia with Lady B moving from middays to afternoons. Derrick Sampson, Dyana's former co-host, is now working solo on Sundays. Classix 107.9 and WRNB Program Director and industry vet Mixin' Jay Dixon is now heard middays at the station.
MinaSayWhat (pictured left) takes over middays at 100.3 WRNB in Philadelphia. She replaces K.Foxx. Mina was the former morning show host at Power 99 and was working weekends at sister hip hop station WPHI 103.9. She continues to host Mina's House every night at 6p. on SiriusXM’s The Heat channel.
DJ Angel Baby moves from middays at Z107.9 (WENZ) Cleveland to afternoons at 92.7 The Block in Charlotte, while voice tracking middays at Hot 107.5 (WGPR) Detroit. Replacing DJ Angel Baby at Z107.9 is weekend host Matty Willz. Willz is also the local producer for The Morning Hustle.
105.3 R&B”(WOSF) in Charlotte now airs the DL Hughley Show for afternoons replacing Eddie Owens.
Jackie Paige (pictured left) is now doing middays at 92.7 The Block. She will continue with middays at 93.9 WKYS and iPower 92.1/104.1 in Richmond.
Dee ‘lilD’ Porter (pictured left) continues at 97.9 The Beat in the DFW from 12-3 and now adds weekend duty at Hot 104.1 in St. Louis.
Are there more? Probably. We will update.
So what about other radio companies with urban formatted stations? Those stations, particularly those owned by iHeartRadio run many syndicated programs like Steve Harvey, The Breakfast Club, Big Boy's Neighborhood and Keith Sweat's Hotel. They also do a lot of voice tracking to other markets with such personalities as T-Roy of 93.3 Beat in Jacksonville, Patty Jackson and Frankie Darcell at WDAS, Roxy Romeo at Power 99 in Philly and Joe Soto at V103 in Chicago. However recently iHeartRadio has told full time employees will be required to take two weeks of unpaid vacation.
