Radio Hall of Fame: The Breakfast Club, Donnie Simpson, Sway, and Angie Martinez Are Nominated
This year's nominees for The Radio Hall of Fame include The Breakfast Club morning show with Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy; along with Donnie Simpson, the long time Washington, D.C. radio personality, former BET host, and current WMMJ Majic 102.3/92.7 afternoon host, who got his start in radio at age 15 at WJLB in his native Detroit; Current Sirius XM host and former 106.1 KMEL personality and MTV host Sway Calloway; and the Queen of New York Hip Hop radio Angie Martinez for her contributions at Hot 97 and Power 105.1. A Radio Hall of Fame committee will determine the winners in each category by vote. The Radio Hall of Fame has announced this year’s 24 nominees in a total of six categories. Industry voting in four of those categories begins next Monday, July 13. Listener voting in the other two categories begins on July 20. Due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns, the 2020 induction ceremony will be a live radio broadcast from multiple locations this October. The exact date and additional details will be announced along with the inductees later this summer.
The Radio Hall of Fame honors notable radio personalities and showcases their accomplishments in the Chicago-based Museum of Broadcast Communications. Each year, 24 nominations in six categories are determined by the organization’s nominating committee, which is comprised of industry leaders.
