Melvin Lindsey Original Host of The Quiet Storm and Russ Parr Among 2021 Nominees for The Radio Hall of Fame
Melvin Lindsey, the original host of The Quiet Storm, the evening radio program launched at 96.3 WHUR in 1976 has been nominated for The Radio Hall of Fame. Listeners will not be able to vote in the Longstanding Local/Regional (20 years or more) category in which Lindsey is nominated.

Also nominated for 2021 is Russ Parr, who hosts his own syndicated morning show for Radio One/Reach Media. Russ Parr’s career has evolved from stand-up comedian, to recording artist, to film director, writer, author, to nationally syndicated radio host. Parr's radio career began in Los Angeles at 1580 KDAY, the nation's first Hip Hop station. He's also worked as a local host in Dallas at KJMZ 100.3 JAMZ and Washington, D.C. at 93.9 WKYS where he launched his syndicated morning show in 2002. Radio listeners will have an opportunity to vote for Parr in the Music Format On-Air Personality category.
2020 saw a record number of African American and People of Color broadcasters receiving nominations and being inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. Those inductees included Donnie Simpson, Sway Calloway, Angie Martinez, and The Breakfast Club members DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne The God. Below is the full lists of nominees.
African American Gospel host Dr. Bobby Jones and conservative talk show host Larry Elders are also nominated. 88 year old radio personality Sid Mark and his Frank Sinatra themed radio program "Sundays with Sinatra" has been nominated as well. He was a fulltime traditional Jazz DJ with a show called "The Mark of Jazz" when he first launched "Friday with Frank." He was there as a fill in host on a Friday night with two Sinatra albums in 1957 on Black heritage radio station 1340 AM WHAT and it's jazz sister station 96.5 WHAT-FM in Philadelphia. Later he added the Sunday version and the rest is history. It's been on the air ever since including a run in New York City on WYNY-FM and syndicated to other cities. The show currently airs on WPHT 1210 AM.

The Museum of Broadcast Communications announced today the selection of the RADIO HALL OF FAME 2021 nominees: 24 people and shows in six categories. The nominees were chosen by the Radio Hall of Fame Nominating Committee, with input from the radio industry and listeners.
Voting for inductees begins today in four of six categories: Longstanding Local/Regional (20 years or more), Active Local/Regional (10 years or more), Longstanding Network/Syndication (20 years or more), and Longstanding Network/Syndication (20 years or more). Those categories will be voted on by a panel of 600 industry professionals.

Spoken Word On-Air Personality
On July 26, listeners nationwide will vote on the other two categories, Music Format On-Air Personality and Spoken Word On-Air Personality. The winners in those categories will be determined by the public and the Radio Hall of Fame Nominating Committee. The outcome of the listener vote will count as one vote among the committee votes. Listeners may vote once beginning Monday, July 26 at: www.radiovote.com.
2021 Radio Hall of Fame inductees will be announced Monday, August 16, and honored in-person at the 2021 Radio Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Chicago’s Wintrust Grand Banking Hall. Tickets will go on-sale Monday, August 16.

The Radio Hall of Fame was founded by the Emerson Radio Corporation in 1988. The Museum of Broadcast Communications took over operations in 1991.
The Museum of Broadcast Communications is recognizing radio’s 100th anniversary with a variety of events and exhibits in 2021, including special tributes and recognition of the many talented men and women who have contributed to the medium’s ongoing success.
