Tank Praises "Damage" by H.E.R. and Tells Why Females Are Dominating Male R&B Singers on the Joe Budden Podcast
Tank's basic point is that female R&B singers do not have to compete with female rappers. Cardi B. and Nicki rap. H.E.R., Snoh, Ella Mae sing! On the other hand the lines are blurred between male R&B singers and rappers. Tank says he listens to Future, Young Thug, Migos, and others for syncopation and melody. He knows who is competing with.
He also goes on to say a 23 year old R&B singer does not want to be heard on Adult R&B and Urban AC radio. Tank says vulnerability in R&B singers doesn't sell nowadays.
**Some raw language here. We clipped a portion of the interview.
Tank made a very good point. Here's an example using the popular R&B song Blxst from "Chosen" ft. Ty Dolla $ign & Tyga. There's definitely a vibe here that reminds a listener of Bobby Valentino, Omarion, New Edition, or Boyz II Men.
