Leon Harris Returns to the Anchor Desk with Doreen Gentzler at NBC 4 But First Talks About His DUI Conviction and Jail Time
In a candid interview with NBC Washington News4’s Doreen Gentzler, news anchor Leon Harris opens up about his journey with sobriety and serving jail time after being convicted of driving under the influence. Harris spent 10 days in jail, is currently serving a three-year supervised probation, and has an ignition interlock device installed on his vehicle.
One of the stories Harris anchored after returning to his News4's anchoring duties was the station's coverage of the counting of mail-in ballots in Maryland's primary election this week. The votes were being counted in some close races including the Democratic nominee for governor which was won by author and non-profit leader Wes Moore, who held a virtual campaign fundraiser with Oprah Winfrey. Moore if elected would become the state's first Black governor which in turn would thrust him into the national political spotlight and discussion.
