The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Returning to 97.9 The Beat as Majic 94.5 Shuts Down

The Rickey Smiley Morning Show is making its return to 97.9 The Beat, giving Dallas-Fort Worth listeners a familiar destination for the nationally syndicated morning program. The move comes as Majic 94.5 prepares to sign off, with Monday, July 6, serving as the station's final day under its current format. Following the transition, the station will begin its next chapter under new ownership as Encouragement Media Group prepares to relaunch the frequency as Spanish Christian "Fuzion." Fans of Rickey Smiley can once again tune in to 97.9 The Beat for the show's signature blend of comedy, entertainment news, celebrity interviews, and community conversations.

97.9 The Beat is where Rickey Smiley launched his morning show for Radio One in the mid 2000's. In 2008 the show entered in syndication for Reach Media and Radio One. Smiley began his radio career at 95.7 JAMZ in Birmingham, Alabama. With the move, The Morning Hustle will no longer air on the station.

The programming changes are part of a major reshaping of the Dallas-Fort Worth radio landscape. As Radio One moves forward with its acquisition of K104 (104.5 KKDA-FM) and 105.7 Smooth R&B (KRNB) from Service Broadcasting. As the transition unfolds, listeners can expect additional announcements regarding programming, branding, and what comes next for several of the region's most recognizable radio stations.

We do expect some of the talented hosts from Majic 94.5 like Queen Indy Bee and Veda Loca along with syndicated host DL Hughley to make their way over to Smooth R&B 105.7 or perhaps to 97.9 The Beat, which could become to another urban music format. As it stands now 97.9 The Beat is a hip hop station as is K104. There's no need for two Hip Hop stations owned by the same company in the same market. There's a lot for Radio One to consider.
