NFL Analyst Michael Robinson Accuses Jalen Hurts of Making Up Blood Clot Injury to Sit Out Season

Michael Robinson, a former Penn State and Seattle Seahawks fullback and now an analyst on The NFL Network made an outlandish statement regarding the recent blood clot diagnosis to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, “To me, it looked like Jalen is kind of getting himself out of the fray so that this lost season ...he's pulling himself out so that this doesn't look like it's on me.”

Robinson, who slyly preceded his comments by saying he's just playing devil's advocate and saying he's not a medical professional, is under fire for his comments.  “I’m not doctor, I’m just saying go Google a superficial blood clot compared to an actual blood clot.”

Should he be fired for his comments? Should he at least apologize?

In this media world of hot takes and click bait, a former NFL saying this about a current NFL player who is now on injured reserve is asinine.

Updated Post: Jalen Hurts is out for the season. Announced 10/19/26.

Full statement from NFL Insider Josina Anderson:

The inferred accusations in his rant below are dangerous on several fronts: From implying the #Eagles starting quarterback may be quitting on his team, to Hurts may be overstating an injury since it’s “superficial,” to assuming Hurts' injury doesn’t need vigilant monitoring for progression in severity because it’s “superficial” —all the while telling us to google it because Hurts' clot is only "superficial."

Well beyond just Google, I conferred with a medical expert who used to be a prominent doctor in a major city hospital.

In general, a superficial blood clot is not entirely isolated from the deeper venous system, and can potentially progress to a deep vein thrombosis through a few specific mechanisms.
