N.Y. prosecutor to retry talk show host Reese Hopkins, the former "Crossover Negro" from the Star and Bucwild Morning Show
Reese Hopkins, whose real name is Edward Maurice Hopkins, was arrested in October 2008 on rape charges, just days after he was axed from 680 WRKO-AM Boston as a talk show host. Hopkins was a contributor and played foil to Troi "Star" Torain on the highly rated and controversial morning show on New York's Power 105.1 until 2005.
-BostonHerald.com Manhattan prosecutors plan to retry Reese Hopkins this fall on charges of sexually molesting two 11-year-old girls, prompting the ex-Boston radio yakker to lash out at Big Apple investigators over their crumbling sexual assault case against French financier Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
“The Dominique Strauss-Kahn case is a perfect example of the district attorney’s office and the special victims units’ policy of you accuse, we arrest without properly investigating or vetting the accuser as they would any other crime,” Hopkins said last week.
...A spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office said Hopkins’ trial is expected to start in the fall and declined to respond to Hopkins’ comments.
The former WRKO-AM (680) radio host has been free on $20,000 cash bail since April, when his child rape trial ended with a deadlocked jury. Hopkins was accused of sexually molesting the girls and forcibly raping one of them in his Manhattan apartment in 2004. (The alleged victim was a friend of his fiancée’s daughter. Hopkins had been imprisoned for 18 months awaiting trial, most of it on Rikers Island, NY.)
