Old School 105.3 is Radio One's New Charlotte FM Station
Radio One has added a second Urban AC station for the 25+ demo
At 5 p.m. Monday, WNOW-FM (105.3) changed formats from regional Mexican music to hits of the ’70s and ’80s. It will be known as “Old School 105.3.” Radio One introduced several months ago the “Old School” format to the Dallas Fort Worth area and were happy with the ratings growth in that market. Now they are trying "Old School" in Charlotte.
Earlier this month, Radio One purchased WNOW-FM for $7.75 million as their third FM station in the market place with My 92.7 (WQNC-FM) which features contemporary and R&B from the "’80s, 90's and Now" along with Praise 100.9 (WPZS-FM) “Praise” 100.9.
“Dallas ratings confirm Old School 105.3’s potential,” Gary Weiss, Radio One’s regional vice president for the Carolinas, said in a statement. “Charlotte has a healthy appetite for Old School music, and we’ve fine-tuned the mix for local tastes.” The format will feature music from Luther Vandross, the Isley Brothers, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind and Fire and Anita Baker.
With Radio One welcoming listeners from My 92.7, Are there more changes to come?
