Julio G. Will Return to KDAY in 2013

Pioneering DJ Reportedly Returning to the Industry

Veteran Los Angeles, California area dj and on-air personality Julio G announced this week that he will return to terrestrial airwaves after a several-year hiatus. DubCNN reports that Julio, who has worked with Cypress Hill and Snoop Dogg in recent years, will begin at KDAY at 93.5 FM beginning in January 2013.

Julio is often credited as a pioneer within the Gangsta Rap movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Lynwood, California native also provided a platform for Hip Hop news during the prominence of Ruthless Records, Death Row Records and Priority Records. -Source HIP HOP DX

When we last heard from Julio, it was about 2 and a half years ago (at the end of 2009). He was less than enthusiastic about the radio industry. He was simply burned out and turned off by tight playlists. Julio at the time said "it would take money" to get him back on the radio. He added that it would be insult for him to accept a radio position for $30,000 a year, for not only himself, but for the next generation of on air personalities in the Los Angeles market.

Here is the audio from that post:
