Morning Radio Host Bill Anderson Leaving 900 AM WURD

After 10 years at the station, His Final Show will be Friday

Bill Anderson, the morning host of Philadelphia African American Talk Station 900 AM WURD is leaving radio to pursue an opportunity to host on an unnamed local television program. Friday will be the last day for the "Wake Up With Bill” show.

Anderson, who has been at WURD since its inception a little over 10 years ago has told friends he will be dabbling in television in the near future. He appears regularly on the local Fox television affiliate morning show “Good Day,” but has said that he is not going to Fox 29.

“I wish I could say more but I really can't,” Anderson said to the Philadelphia Daily News. “The decision to leave was mine and the station has been great about supporting my decision,” he said. “ In the next few weeks I'll be able to say more about a really exciting opportunity for me to grow but definitely stay in local/regional media.”

Anderson is a part of second generation broadcasters, who were nurtured under the wings of legendary Philadelphia broadcasters such as Georgie Woods and Mary Mason at Black heritage radio station 1340 WHAT. They were not only known for their on air talents but their work in the Black community as well.  Many from that air staff at WHAT eventually moved over to WURD after the format on 1340 was changed.

Bill Anderson was the first to leave and help build the upstart WURD from the ground up as the morning host. Bill is also the son of W. Cody Anderson, the former general manager of WDAS AM and FM. It was under the senior Anderson's leadership and inspiration that the popular celebration known as "Unity Day" began.
