Frank Ski Makes It Official, He's Leaving 96.3 WHUR

The Frank Ski Show with Mo Ivory
After two years as the afternoon host at WHUR, Frank Ski is leaving the station. He made the announcement official on his show that today was his last show. In a press release he stated, “Working with the people at WHUR Radio has been one of the best experiences of my radio career. The DC listeners embraced me as soon as I hit the airwaves."

Frank Ski emerged as the winner of WHUR's afternoon contest two years ago and put together one of the best afternoon shows on radio regardless of format. He incorporated some of the features he had as the former morning host at V-103 into the show such as the Inspirational Vitamin and he brought in DJ Herb from Atlanta as his afternoon mix DJ. Mo Ivory and Joe Clair were his co-hosts and he specifically tailored a show suited for the Washington, DC market that proved to be a ratings winner for the station. Clair's work eventually helped him to land the morning show on WPGC 95.5.

Frank Ski also hinted that he has a new opportunity on the horizon that he can not talk about. A radio show on his former station V-103 is unlikely but perhaps Magic 107.5/97.5 or Kiss 104.1 will be a landing spot for him. But anything is possible at this point and maybe a nationally syndicated show from Atlanta could come a calling. Frank still lives in the ATL and operates a restaurant that once bore his name, but is now known as "Klass."

No word yet on WHUR plans for a new host for their afternoon show. The next host will have his or her work cut out for them ratings wise as competitor Majic 102.3 brought in veteran DC broadcaster Donnie Simpson for afternoons and launched their "Real Sound of the DMV" campaign on August 17th.

Frank Ski's entire tweet via TwitLonger:

Today will be my last day on 96.3 WHUR.

2 years ago. Being Voted DC'S Next Big Voice in the city where my radio career began was a great honor. Being back in the DMV on the campus of Howard University where it all began felt so right!

Thank You to our radio listeners in DC, Baltimore and Virginia for helping us take WHUR back to the top of the ratings!

I leave with so many new friends and great memories. From having coffee with President Obama, to my early morning runs through the city with the National Capital YMCA's Triathlon Team. I'll never forget the fun conversations at Stan's and Ben's. Monday Nights at Marvins, or the DC Wings with Mumbo at The Hamilton!

Working with the people at WHUR Radio has been one of the best experiences of my radio career.

I look forward to my next amazing  radio experience!

Frank Ski
