Is It Good for Steve Harvey to Move His Radio Show From Atlanta to Los Angeles?

The way we see it--NO for radio stations. Yes for Steve.

Several radio industry websites are reporting that Steve Harvey will be moving his syndicated radio morning show from Atlanta to Los Angeles. This will mean that Harvey and his crew consisting of Shirley Strawberry, Carla Ferrell and Nephew Tommy (Thomas Miles) will now do the show from the West Coast.

Although many folks across the country are saying they are abandoning the Steve Harvey Morning Show in wake of his recent hits to his brand (overall morning ratings since the Trump meeting have yet to be released); many of his affiliates across the country stand to lose a lot more in revenue if Harvey leaves the morning show permanently.

The Steve Harvey Morning Show is heard on more than 80 stations nationwide with most of those stations on the East Coast. This will mean Harvey will have to hit the airwaves at 3:00 AM. each day in Los Angeles. Also with a scheduled time such as that one, this precludes Steve of having any LIVE in-studio guests for the most part unless they have no problem with staying up all night. Although it's not a huge part of the show, try getting an agent to tell a music artist or movie star that they've been booked for the Steve Harvey Morning Show at 3 or 4 in the morning. The show will have to mostly rely on celebrities calling in to the show.

Now grabbing celebrities will no longer be an issue for Steve's new TV Talk Show. Last November he announced that he was ending his syndicated TV talk show in Chicago after five seasons and launching a new one in L.A. This show will more likely be celebrity driven. Steve can also tape the TV show each day right after the radio show ends instead of taping five shows over a weekend in Chicago as he does now.

The move to L.A. we feel is a way for Harvey to exit the show gracefully and concentrate his efforts on his new daily TV talk show. Perhaps there is a LA based comedian being groomed to take his place. Also it's gotta be an easier grind for the 60 year old Steve too to just concentrate on TV. For radio programmers this signals a time for all of you to re-think your morning programming in the very near future.

What's going to be strange is Steve Harvey will broadcast on his Los Angeles affiliate KJLH, not live but on a 3 hour delay.

  1. Steve it's time to give up everything. I know I don't listen anymore. You can't meet with Trump and expect US to be OK with it. See ya.
