Radio One Houston Remains Live and Local During Hurricane Harvey
Radio One Houston continues to dig in and broadcast live and local during Hurricane Harvey-- as long as the power allows. OM/PD Terri Thomas and on-air staffers Madd Hatta, J Mac, Keisha Nicole, DJ Eric and Rob G have been on the air at 97.9 The Box since last Friday (August 25th) with live local coverage. They're complemented by a skeleton crew of dedicated engineers; and working remotely with a team of digital marketers to inform listeners of The Box 97.9 FM and Majic 102.1 FM.
Thomas said, "We've been living at the station doing all we can to stay on air and get information out to listeners and connect people with help. We’re grateful for all of the well wishes from radio family from around the country and for them inviting Madd Hatta to talk to stations from various formats with a local perspective. This is what makes radio special –- our ability to come together for the greater good. We have some long days ahead but we’re committed to staying #HoustonStrong.
“This is worse than Hurricane Ike and an unusual occurrence," she continued. "People are still stranded in their cars. Homes and personal possessions have already been lost, but this is our city. We planned for this. Making the station our ‘home’ is considered our standard operating procedure. As long as the power allows, we will be live and local providing our listeners with the realtime information they need, the inspiration we all seek and yes, the entertainment to lift us during this tragic time.”
“In times like these we see the continued importance of radio being live and local to service the need of listeners," Radio One SVP/Programming Jay Stevens said. "We are proud of our team and standing guard to support them in any way possible.”
