Tom Joyner Returns to Dallas on the NEW Majic 94.5
Radio One Dallas Changes its Rhythm with MAJIC 94.5
Radio Icon Tom Joyner Returns to Mornings in DFW;DL Hughley to Host Afternoons
Radio One Dallas adds some “majic” to KSOC-FM bringing today’s R&B and throwbacks to dial position 94.5. MAJIC 94.5 features music from contemporary artists such as Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, and Mary J. Blige, but still keeps a little throwback flavor with the likes of Erykah Badu, 112, and Prince. As a part of the change, the Metroplex gets reacquainted with a familiar voice during morning drive with radio legend Tom Joyner.

“We’re excited to bring a fresh, new vibe to the airwaves with MAJIC 94-5 and I think the Metroplex will like what they hear,” says Tami Honesty, vice president and general manager, Radio One Dallas. “With today’s fast-paced news cycle, the return of Tom Joyner during mornings and the addition of D.L. Hughley in afternoons, we’ll connect with our listeners on another level giving us the right balance of music and entertainment.”
The Tom Joyner Morning Show, which reaches 7.4 million listeners nationally, can be heard weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. (CT). Joyner’s down-to-earth personality attracts an intensely dedicated and responsive audience of listeners. His co-host, Sybil Wilkes, has created a similar bond with the show’s fans, relating to listeners and delivering facts and information with charm and positivity. One of the show’s newer features, ‘The Funny Chair’, engages a different comedian co-hosting with Tom each weekday, offering their perspective on hot topics – the lineup includes: Arsenio Hall, Lavell Crawford, Bill Bellamy, Kym Whitley, and Sherri Shepherd.
Needless to say, Tom Joyner is extremely excited. "So excited…on the air in Dallas! It's hard for me to keep a secret,” says Joyner. “I wanted to get on stage with Frankie Beverly and announce it on Saturday," (referring to a concert attended by Joyner this past weekend).
New to afternoons, the D.L. Hughley Show is a daily themed, music intensive afternoon drive program hosted by actor and comedian D.L. Hughley. Along with co-host Jasmine Sanders, Hughley takes his listeners on a no-holds-barred ride of humor and reality weekday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (CT). “I've always loved gigging (comedy) in Dallas,” says Hughley. “Now I get to gig there four hours a day, five times a week.”
The smooth and sultry voice of DFW’s own Cindi B. will continue to grace the airwaves during middays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Evenings from 7 p.m. to 12 midnight (CT) will belong to radio veteran John Monds with his “Love and R&B with John Monds” program airing Sundays through Thursdays.
“MAJIC 94-5 will satisfy the adults that are looking for an R&B station that is customized for the DFW, with all-star talent like Tom Joyner and DL Hughley,” says Mark McCray, operations manager and program director, Radio One Dallas. “We are confident that our mix of music and talent will reflect the thoughts and concerns of our community while entertaining and informing the Metroplex.”
Our original Post:
Urban One, Inc./Radio One has flipped 94.5 FM to the Urban AC format as 'Majic 94.5' and returns The Tom Joyner Morning Show to the Dallas/ Ft. Worth market. Classic Hip-Hop/R&B station Boom 94.5 is out along with the morning show with Mark McCrazy, Indy B, and DJ Menace. The station KSOC-FM, was once known as 94.5 K-Soul when it was an Urban AC station and for a short period of time Old School 94.5.
The TJMS originates from the Reach Media studios in Dallas, but ironically enough, the show itself hasn't been heard there since November 2014, when the flipped to Boom 94.5 occurred. Since that time Joyner frequently broadcasts from New York or Miami, while Sybil Wilkes, fill-in host Skip Murphy, and the producers are in Dallas. The TJMS Funny Chair co-hosts (Arsenio Hall, Bill Bellamy Kym Whitley, Sherri Shepherd, and Lavell Crawford) usually broadcast from Los Angeles.
We also expect the D.L. Hughley Show, a Reach Media syndicated program to added to the line up shortly.
