The Rundown with Robin Thede, BET Needs to Get This One Right, Don't They?
The new show late night host Robin Thede talks to Joy Reid of AM Joy on MSNBC.
To give you a little background on the show, BET joins forces with Executive Producer Chris Rock to bring the African American female voice to late night news satire: “THE RUNDOWN WITH ROBIN THEDE.”
Comedian and former head writer and contributor for “The Nightly Show,” Robin Thede, gives her hilariously unique take on the week’s headlines in politics and pop culture in a fast-paced, no-holds-barred 30-minute late night show featuring biting social commentary, sharp sketch comedy and in-your-face pop culture parody.
From the team behind “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,” “THE RUNDOWN WITH ROBIN THEDE” is produced by JAX MEDIA with Chris Rock and Robin Thede serving as Executive Producers. Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Skidmore and Genevieve Anniello also executive produce.
BET has attempted to address political and social issues in a news format program in the past. Years ago, believe it or not, there was such a thing as "BET News" that was hosted by Ed Gordon. Their most recent attempt was a show hosted by T.J. Holmes in 2013. (The BET audience slept on that show.) "Don't Sleep!" started off as a daily program that was reduced to once a week show before it was cancelled.
Will BET be able to attract an audience to turn to them for opinionated news, commentary, comedy, and satire? Will Trevor Noah and Larry Wilmore fans tune in to the former "The Nightly Show" writer on BET? It's going to be a tough sell.
