Kiss 104.1 Goes Local with Art Terrell, Roy Wood, Jr., and Sasha the Diva; Tom Joyner and Michael Baisden Out

Art Terrell (c.) and Roy Wood, Jr. (l.) with sidekick Zooman, are now the new morning drive hosts at Atlanta's Kiss 104.1. The duo formerly hosted early afternoons from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. at the station. With the move the station has dropped The Tom Joyner Morning Show. Kiss 104.1 also announced that they have dropped the Michael Baisden Show, which aired from 3-7 and have moved Sasha the Diva (in the video below with actress Jasmine Guy) to afternoons from her former 9 a.m.-12 p.m. time slot.

Many know Roy Wood, Jr. from his frequent appearances on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

This news should be a bit of a concern for the future of the Michael Baisden Show. The revived syndicated program is now heard in only two major markets (Washington, D.C. and Miami). The show without the major promotion of ABC Radio network and Cumulus Media during its initial run, has not been an attractive program for major Urban AC stations nationally. Baisden launched his new show last January from Atlanta at the Kiss 104.1 studios.

Tom Joyner has already announced his retirement from radio in two years, however with Joyner no longer under contract with Kiss 104.1, Radio One could move Joyner to Majic 107.5/95.7, which now airs The Steve Harvey Morning Show. Joyner's show is own by Reach Media and Radio One, while Harvey's show is syndicated through Premiere Networks/iHeartMedia.

Kiss 104.1 will go jockless in middays for now.

Cox Media Group Atlanta’s KISS 104.1 (WALR-FM) is making exciting new programming changes that usher in a new era at Atlanta’s top R&B station.

“The changes we’re making represent a new day dawning in Atlanta R&B music,” said CMG Atlanta VP of Programming Tony Kidd. “This new programming line-up reflects what Atlanta’s African-American listeners want most from their favorite R&B station.”

Kidd says that the programming changes, which begin Nov. 27, include:

• More of today’s R&B and Throwbacks music from today’s R&B stars and superstars and timeless music from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s.

• Monday – Friday, 5 -9 a.m.: “Morning Groove” with Art Terrell and Roy Wood Jr. with news and information from Condace Pressley. In addition, the show will include commentary, opinions and humor from trusted voices like Clark Howard, Corey “Zooman” Miller, Aaron Paxton Arnold and more. “The Morning Groove” will play the best of Today’s R & B Music and Throwbacks.

• Monday – Friday, 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.: Sasha the Diva takes over the afternoon drive to entertain and guide listeners through their ride home in Atlanta’s busy traffic.

The new KISS 104.1 aims to entertain and inform Atlantans with a focus on local, relatable topics, a good bit of humor, and the best of Today’s R&B and Throwbacks.
