Troy Johnson Lands TV News Anchor Position with ABC Affiliate

Troy Johnson, probably best known in the industry as one of the hosts, with Marc Clarke, on the immensely popular and iconic Baltimore morning drive program, the Big Phat Morning Show on 92Q, has moved in front of the camera as news anchor for  WAPT television channel 16 in Jackson, Mississippi. Johnson had been grooming himself for TV news by hosting a weekly segment for WRC Channel 4 in Washington, D.C. while working at 96.3 WHUR.

Troy Johnson joined 16 WAPT as the 5pm Anchor, and nightside reporter in October. He comes to Jackson from Hearst radio station WBAL NewsRadio 1090 in Baltimore, where he anchored and reported on afternoon newscasts.

Before arriving in Mississippi, Troy’s work was a tale of two cities. Not only Baltimore, but Washington D.C. too. Troy came to Charm City in 1999, to co-host The Big Phat Morning Show on Radio One’s 92Q. He also hosted a self-named news, and current affairs talk show on CBS’ FM Talk 105.7, and also served as Executive Director of People 75, Baltimore's public access television station. In D.C; he has been an air personality, and news anchor at Howard University’s 96.3 WHUR, and CBS’ All News 99.1 WNEW. He also filed a weekly report called the ‘Talk Around Town’, on NBC 4.

Troy started his career in Indianapolis at Power 105 WTLC, as a board-op, and production director working for his dad, legendary personality Jay Johnson. He took his first on-air job at Majic 108 in St. Louis.

Troy is from Chicago, and attended Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. He has served as a two-term President of ABMW, the Baltimore chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), a Region II Director of NABJ, and is a member of the National Press Club.

In his free time, Troy is an avid cyclist, who loves history, travel, and a great meal.
