Classix 107.9 Adds The Russ Parr Morning Show
Radio One Philadelphia station manager, Ezio Torres, announced yesterday that media veteran Russ Parr will host a new morning show on the all-new Classix 107.9 FM. The Russ Parr Morning Show premiered on Monday, July 29, 2019, and will broadcast weekdays from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Parr, the host of the Russ Parr Morning Show, is not only a well-known figure in media and television but also a noted voice on black music and culture.
“This guy is fun, funny and all about winning. I’ve heard about Russ Parr for years. He lives up to his reputation as a first-class broadcaster and content King,” stated Jay Dixon, Program Director of Radio One Philadelphia’s 100.3 WRNB, Praise 107.9 HD2, and Classix 107.9 FM. “He’ll be the icing on the cake to make Classix 107.9 one of the greatest Classic R&B brands in history. We are too happy to have him on board.”
Parr’s career has evolved from stand-up comedian and recording artist to filmmaker and host of a top-rated, nationally syndicated radio show heard across America. He landed his own morning show on 1580 KDAY in Los Angeles, CA, the first 24-hour, all hip hop station in the country. He not only used his platform to address gang violence but also provide gang intervention.
While at KDAY, Parr launched Rapsur Records, an independent record label. He recorded one of several parody songs, titled, We Like Ugly Women, as Bobby Jimmy, a fictitious character he popularized on his morning show. The record was a hit, and ultimately, he signed with rapper Eazy-E’s label, Ruthless Records and recorded several EPs produced by Dr. Dre and DJ Pooh. In 1995, Parr was offered the position as morning show host at 93.9 WKYS in Washington, D.C. Two years later, the Russ Parr Morning Show debuted and has been in syndication for nearly two decades.
In addition to his music and radio credits, Parr has written, produced and directed films and television movies including TV One’s The Bobby Debarge Story (2019), Bounce TV’s Saints and Sinners (2017 – present), Ringside (2016), Definitely Divorcing (2016), and TV One’s hit series Born Again Virgin (2015).
“I have worked with Russ Parr in the past, and he is incredibly entertaining while being the ultimate, sales-friendly businessman,” Torres stated. “Listeners can now start their day with Russ, get through their workday with Lady B, and drive home with Dyana Williams. This completes our prime day parts.”
Parr is committed to urban radio and its role in the African American community to not only be entertaining and uplifting but also information.
“As a Sixer fan, I’m excited to return to the airwaves in Philadelphia and look forward to sitting in the stands!” Teaming with Philadelphia legends, Dyana and Lady B, is truly an honor! Our morning show isn’t just about fun and games. Hopefully, it will give a voice to everything happening in the city and the world. More importantly, our listeners will love the music they grew up with. Get ready for the most interactive morning show in America, Philly.”
