Dyana Williams Set to Host Afternoons on Philly's Classix 107.9


With the iconic Patti LaBelle making the announcement on the weekly 'Soulful Sundays' programs on WRNB-FM (100.3) and Classix 107.9 (WPPZ), listeners learned that veteran radio personality Dyana Williams is heading back to the airwaves full time on Monday, July 15. She will host 'Afternoon Delight' from 3 to 7 p.m. on Classix 107.9, Monday through Thursday. She will continue hosting the simulcast of 'Soulful Sundays' on both stations.

Image result for classix 107.9Williams has not done full time radio since the 80's. She began her radio career at 96.3 WHUR in Washington, D.C. and then returned to her hometown of NYC where she worked with the legendary Frankie Crocker at 107.5 WBLS. She moved on to Philadelphia where she was an on-air personality at 105.3 WDAS -FM. She was married also at the time to The Sound of Philadelphia Records founder and songwriter Kenny Gamble. Williams along with Grammy-winning producer and Kenny Gamble and broadcaster Ed Wright is credited with establishing June as Black Music Month in 1979. In 1990 she launched the Association of African American Music Foundation. Williams is a frequent contributor on the TV ONE program 'Unsung.'

Jay Dixon, Program Director of Radio One Philadelphia’s 100.3 WRNB, Praise 107.9 HD2, and Classix 107.9 FM stated, “Dyana is a true talent who has contributed so much to African-American music, arts, and culture. Her vast knowledge of music and the stories behind The Sound of Philadelphia continues to enhance our programming.”

Lady B will continue to precede Williams in the midday slot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the station. Lady B also hosts the popular Basement Party with DJ Touchtone on Friday and Saturday evenings. The lineup also includes Madelyn Woods on the weekends. In December, Radio One flipped the format of gospel station Praise 107.9 to R&B Music from the 70's and 80's as Classix 107.9 FM.
