Philly's Hip Hop 103.9 and Other Radio One Stations Launch 'The Morning Hustle' with Headkrack

It's now official... Reach Media, Inc. announced the debut of The Morning Hustle, airing weekdays from 6a-10a ET. The Morning Hustle is the freshest program in broadcast with an entertaining, humorous and informative take on urban pop culture from the Millennial and Generation Z point of view, meant to wake up its audience to the beat of today’s Hip Hop.

THE SHOW

The Morning Hustle brings a cast consisting of fresh and outspoken talent, with a unique appeal derived from their diversity of experiences and backgrounds. This blend is accented by the insights and commentary of contributing experts who are culture-connected and culture-adjacent personalities. Interactive content and a multimedia focus carry the show’s interaction past 10am with a strong social presence and shareable content, bringing listeners back on a daily basis.

The show offers listeners the unique chemistry of hosts HeadKrack, Angie Ange, “On-Air” Jordan, Lore’l and Billy Sorrells, providing a rare authenticity and transparency that connect with the lifestyle of the audience.

HeadKrack is a Hip Hop authority who stays up-to-date on all the latest in music, movies, artists and entertainment. Already a recognized expert on pop culture and current events, he brings a straight-talking and funny outlook that has made him a listener favorite.

Angie Ange keeps her finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the community and uses her platform to educate and entertain listeners. Not new to the airwaves, her road to radio began at a very early age.

“On-Air” Jordan’s improvisational skills and comedic timing make his celebrity and listener interaction the most compelling radio to wake up to, from his morning anthem “The Head Wrap Song” to his popular game “Gimme Five”.

Lore’l speaks truth to power and keeps the masses informed on the latest juicy celeb gossip. First gaining fame after launching a rap career at only 16 years old, her signature voice, laugh and no-filter delivery keep listeners wanting more!

Billy Sorrells and his side-splitting insights and observations on real life topics keep audiences listening, laughing and sometimes debating! He’s made his name as a performer, host and radio personality who’s not shy about bringing sexy back to comedy.

The Morning Hustle is syndicated nationally with markets including Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Detroit, Cleveland and St. Louis.

The Morning Hustle with Headkrack, Angie Ange, On Air Jordan, Lore'l and Billy Sorrells launched today nationwide on many of the stations that previously carried The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. The RSMS transitioned to an Urban AC show as a replacement for The Tom Joyner Morning Show.

The Morning Hustle began on 93.9 WKYS in Washington, D.C. and expanded to Hot 107.5 (Detroit) in 2019. Reach Media/Radio One added Headkrack as lead host along with comedian Billy Sorrells and brought the show to syndication. All of the Radio One urban stations will carry the show except for Hot 107.9 (WHTA) in Atlanta and 97.9 The Beat (Dallas-Ft.Worth). There isn't a space for them in the ATL as we explain below. Ironically the show is based in Atlanta. Hot 107.9 will continue to carry Rickey Smiley with Hip Hop music instead of the Adult R&B songs heard on the national feed.

One of the Radio One stations picking up the new show is WPHI. That station re-branded as Hip Hop 103.9 right before the Christmas holiday. For most of 2019, WPHI 103.9 was jockless in the mornings.

Meanwhile Radio One Philadelphia's Urban AC station will not launch any morning show including the show from which Headkrack came from, the Rickey Smiley Morning Show. Just as the case was with WPHI "Hip Hop 103.9", their Urban AC Adult R&B outlet 100.3 WRNB does not have a morning show with a host. The Quincy Harris Morning Show exited in November.

It would seem that Rickey Smiley Morning Show would be a good fit on the Urban AC station. However, a nearby station in Wilmington, Delaware that launched in late 2019 was featuring The Tom Joyner Morning Show. The new station located 30 miles outside of Philadelphia is picking up Rickey Smiley. This development leaves WRNB with few options for a morning show. The other station they own, Classix 107.9 airs The Russ Parr Morning Show.

Radio One does have history of not airing the company owned syndicated morning show. In Atlanta, Majic 107.5/97.5 must contractually air the Steve Harvey Morning Show, an iHeartRadio/Premiere Networks Show.

Meanwhile Hot 107.9 will continue with Rickey Smiley, Praise 102.5 has Get Up with Erica Campbell, and Classix 102.9 has the Russ Parr Morning Show. (No room for The Morning Hustle.)

Perhaps later this year 100.3 WRNB in Philadelphia will air a morning show not syndicated by Reach Media/Radio One. We don't expect the station to go without a morning show for very long even if it's a yet to be named local host.
